MACON, August 2-—A six-year
old hoy and a negro man were se
riously scalded yesterizy afternoon
when a still operated by Andrew
Hudton and W, C. M:Kay, explod ||
and threw the boiling contents ovor
those standing ncarby. 'The still was
in the back yard «f Hudron’s nome.
Oscar Hudson, son of Andrew
Hudson, was badly buined ahout the
arms, chest and hips, and is in a ge
rious condition at his father’s home,
two miles off the Houston road,
near the Herrington place. The ne
gro Moran Dear, purncd about the
arms, hips and legs, was brought to
the Macon hospiwal and nig condition
is critical.
Hudson and McKay vere arrested
by Deputies Branhan and Stevens
and later released on $1,020 bond
According to officers, Hudson
and McKay said they were making
peaca brandy in an imyprovised still
they had erected. The affair had
been constructed out of a wash tub
barr:l and a jug for a doubler. The
men said that the fire got too hot
and the explosion foucwed. ¢

ing the process was foilowed by the
child, who had gone too near the
still when the explesion occeurred.
The boiling contents went over the
boy &nd negro.
A physician nearby was sumimoned
to trcat the pair and -ave first aid
The condition of the negro was so
bad that he was prought to the hos
pital.
According to : fficer Hudson and
McKay say that it wa. their first
attempt at makine whisky.

night lay on a cot in a cell in the
Dade county jail calmly awaiting
the death whicn he feels soon will
send his soul to the samne recincar

wife, who leaped to death from the
18th floor of the Everglade Hotel
here Friday night.

He did not respond to their advances
until they asked him if they could
obtain his permisson to take charge
of burial arrangements for the
baroness,
The leader of the group repeated
the question twice before Baron
Royce-Garrett answered. Then he

face from the visitors and declined

not taken steps to purcase a grave
plot for her bhody.
