and J. L. Aldridge. These five were

PHYSICIAN IS HELD IN
WAYCROSS DOPE RAID
WAYCROSS, Ga., August 28-—An
alleged dope smuggling and sales
ring of some months standing is be
lieved to have been broken up as
a resull of a raid conducted here
Thursday by federal ang city au
thorities. Dr. J. T. Dixon and his
‘ wife were arrested, 15 alleged ad
~dicts were rounded up, and a quan
tity of dope was taken as evidence.
The raid was organized by T. L.
Guerard, chief narcotic agent, Jack
gsonville. He brought assistants to
Waycross to aid in the campaign
and was given the full cooperation
of Chief of Police H. C, Thackton.
Thre squads of city officials were
used. ‘
Two gallons of paregoric and ap
proximately $2,000 worth of mor
phine were taken and will be held
as evidence, ‘
Chief Agent Guerard reports that
advance agents have been at work
on the case here for several weeks,

The paregoric was found in the
uptown office of Dr. Dixon. The
morphine was discovered in Dr.
Dixon’s home, on Carswell Avenue
extension done up in paper bags
and covered with cool beneath a
stove.
The morphine Guerard reports is
a distinet variety used in smuggling
operations and is not the common
German tiyre sold commercially.

J. D. Wrick, tde man who told thc[

the post office steps here, Friday
stands acquitted of the charge of
manufacturing liquor.
The day after Wrick made accu
sations against all Tennessee law
enforcement officers, it was reveal
ed here he had been indicted for
moonghining. Wlyrick was caught in
a raid at the farm of Emerson Ar
nold, but, the jury decided Wyrick
was there solely in his professional
capacity of fixing tax assessments.
Following his acquittal, Wyrick
made public a letter from Congress
woman Mary T. Norton, of New :
Jersey, to Lincoln S. Andrews, dry
vzar, to the effect that Wyrick
should not be “persecuted” for his
testimony before the Reed committee '
