» BEAUTY AND SILENCE
It is good to drink the cup of si
' lence,
And to eat dark bread alone.
It is good to rest in the deep night
Listening to the rain that drips upon
" the sill
Ar_ld remembering wet trees.
What if the noises from the street
Grlh:?"your ears all through the
* mortal hours?
Night comes, and darkness,
And remembrance of the still white
' sound
Of falling snow upon green branches
What if blind-hearted fools press on
you ‘
In the daily thoroughfare? :
Pity their sorry plight.
Be still and know that all these
things shall pass.
Beauty alone is deathless,
Look to the East!
There is the snowy summit of a hill.
There it has stood since time’s first
i~ + ancient morning,
There it shall stand until the coming
Of the timelegs dawn.
Thither your feet are faring.
And the last cup of silence shall be
i drained.
The last bread eatgn. g
And in your heart of hearts,
And on your lips -
The song of songs shall dwell -

SUGGESTIONS. - l
Start a family journal. This Is an'
especially good hint to youny mar-l
ried people. An elderly woman
writes that thirty-five years ago she
bought an inexpensive blank book
in which each member of the fami
ly recorded items of interest to them.
Everything from a snow fight to a
wedding was recorded also clippings
concerning the family, and pictures
were also pasted in, After all these
years the book is priceless although
its pages are loose and vellow with
age she says.

CHEMISE GIVEN TO ADAPTER
OF “UP IN MABEL'S ROOM"
The waggish scenario writers and
gag men of the Christie studio in
Hollywood, Calif., on learning that
McGrew Willis was to adapt the fa
mous stage farce “Up In Mabel's
Room™” for Marie Prevost’'s new
starring picture, which comes to the
Capitol theatre Thursday made him
a present of a chemise, the essential
basis of the plot of the gay farce, to
serve him as an inspiration while
writing the scnario version.
According to Willis, the only
flaw in the joke was that the “un
derrail” was a cheap cotton chem
ise with an inscription daubed in
ink “Mabel to Mae” while the “plot”
of the play is a beautiful silken gar
ment, handsomely embroidered
“Mabel from Gary” Just how the
frilly, filmy underfiguhes in {tne
moving picture will be revealed by
Miss Prevost when the picture is
shown,
