. Christmas, 1926,
To Our Friends:—
: The Cornish coal miners in England bave a quaint and beautiful super

: They will not work in the mines on Christmas Eve because they sincerely
believe that faries meet at, the bottom of the shaft to celebrate the birth of
Christ. Many a grizzled old Cornishman will tell you that he has heard the
‘most beautiful music coming up from the mine pits on Christmas Eve.
What a wonderful thing it is to have a profound belief in something!
Christmas as an institution is scmething we all believe in, not because we are
this, or that, or the other, but because we are human, and though grown up,
still children. Belief in Christmas is the one childhood memory that we refuse
to surrender. As children, the Christmas spirit quickened our love for Dad,
Mother, sister, brother, aunts, uncles, neighbors and friends. The very atmos

phere was charged with love, and we learned to love everyone around us at
Christmas time.

We cling to old traditions, so we still love Christmas. Once again our
hearts are warmed toward our old-time friends and relatives. The memory of
them—though some may be gone—is mingled with the fragrance of balsam,
holly and mistletoe. : ‘
We do not like to think of being forgotten. And so, our friends, we sug
gest a trade between you and us this Christmas Eve. ’'Round about eleven
o’clock, after the kiddies’ stockings are filled and all the other presents care
fully arranged, we will have a moment of satisfaction. Then you think of us
and we will think of you and we each will wish the other a Merry Christmas,
and the best all 'round year we have ever enjoyed.
