Garden club sets next meeting for Jan. 8
December was a busy
month for the St. Marys
Garden Club, with work
days at Our Lady Star of the
Sea historic chapel, the Pres
byterian church garden and
waterfront pavilion beds.
The club also visited John
Stewart’s garden railroad and
enjoyed its annual Christmas
lunch, which was held at the
King and Prince Resort on
St. Simons Island.
The club’s first meeting of
2013 will be held at 1 p.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the fel
lowship hall of St. Marys
First Presbyterian Church,
100 W. Conyers St. New of
ficers will be installed and
dues for the coming year will
be collected. Members and
guests are invited to come at
12:30 p.m. and bring a lunch
to eat and socialize before
the meeting.
St. Marys Garden Club is
fully federated and open to
both women and men. For

EugeneTalmadge Howard
HOWARD — Eugene Tal
madge Howard, 79, of St.
Marys, passed away Friday,
Dec. 28, 2012, at his resi
dence. Born May 11, 1933, in
Ludowici, he was the son of
the late Dalton H. and Cara-
belle Howard.
Mr. Howard had resided in
Camden County for the past
57 years and was retired from
Gilman Paper Company with
43 years of service.
He was well known in Cam
den County on the local cable
channel, where he played
gospel tapes every Thursday
evening for 27 years.
He loved to tinker on any
thing mechanical and built fur
niture. He loved to fish and
never met a stranger or forgot
a face. He was a member of
the Lighthouse Church of God
in St. Marys.
Funeral services were held
at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30,
2012, at the Lighthouse
Church of God with Pastor
Bobby Woods officiating.
The family received friends
from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Alli
son Memorial Chapel in St.
Marys. A private family burial
will be held at Little Phoebe
Cemetery in Folkston.
Honorary pallbearers were
Ed Marx and employees of
Gilman Paper Company.
Survivors include his wife,
Mary Howard of St. Marys;
three children, Perry Howard
(Jacalyn) of Kingsland,
Dorothy Roberts of St. Marys,
and Mary Jane Anastasi (Rich)
of Cartersville; two sisters,
Dannis Conley of Pembroke
and Maebell Gordon of Lu
dowici; seven grandchildren,
17 great-grandchildren, two
great-great-grandchildren, and
several nieces and nephews.
Allison Memorial Chapel of
St. Marys is in charge of
arrangements.
BRAZELL — David “Allen”
Brazell, 51, of Kingsland died
Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012. He
had lived most of his life in
Camden County and was a
construction worker. He was a
U.S. Army veteran and was
predeceased by his parents,
Jimmy and Betty Hall Brazell,
and a sister, Linda Brazell
Fox.
Survivors are two daugh
ters, Tonya Nicole Lloyd of
Thompson, and Stephanie
Brazell of St. Marys; a brother,
Scott (Missy) Brazell of Kings
land; four grandchildren; sev
eral nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are
being held by the family.

STOKES — Susan W.
Stokes, 65, passed away
Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, in
Jacksonville, Fla. Susan was
born on June 2,1947, in Jack
sonville to Jim and Esther
Witt, both of whom prede
ceased her.
She is survived by her hus
band, Fred, and their three
children, Amanda, Kim and
Freddy (Katherine) and their
two grandchildren, Ansley and
Emerson. Beloved “Aunt
Soup” to her niece Dee Ann
Hickman (and her child An
drew) and to Uncle Larry and
Aunt Marilyn Gallagher (and
their four children, Kathy, Pat,
Maureen and Kevin), she will
be greatly missed.
She was a nurse for 35
years until she was forced to
retire because of her disability.
She was known to one and all
for being quiet and caring -
perfect qualities for a nurse
and a mother. She crocheted
beautiful blankets, hats,
booties, scarves and acces
sories for her family and
friends. She was an avid gar
dener, cook and decorator but
the only “job” she wanted to do
and did well was being a mom.
A celebration of her life will
be held at noon Friday, Jan. 4,
2013, at Our Lady Star of the
Sea Catholic Church. In lieu of
flowers, please make a dona
tion to Our Lady Star of the
Sea building fund, 106 E.
