Daisy is a little dog with
a big heart. She still has
bundles of energy like a
puppy even though she is
seven years old. Daisy licks
the hands of those who feed
her and walk her. She wags
her tail when she sees or
hears people she loves. This
furry one keeps on showing
the same kind of love to her
family during cold weather,
in the heat and in the
rain. Simple things make
her happy such as food,
time outdoors and kind
words. She doesn't make
unnecessary demands and
gives reasonable requests.
She is like many pets who
warm people's hearts and
give people a pleasant
experience.
Animals and people
are different but animals
sometimes demonstrate the
importance of a positive
attitude in learning to love
others in a meaningful
way and to keep on loving
whether we feel like it or
not. Abiding love is more
than an emotion. It is a
personal choice to be kind
toward another person and
to be an encouragement. As
Paul told the Thessalonians,
we should grow in love as
we go along in life. So he
prayed for this to be a reality.
'And may the Lord make
you increase and abound in
love to one another and to
all, just as we do to you," (1
Thessalonians 3:12).

"Abiding Love"
When Jesus spoke to his
Disciples, he challenged
them and us to show the
world how unselfish, giving
love flows in a church
fellowship. The Lord knew
it wouldn't be easy and he
knows we all disappoint
him sometimes but he
gave the command because
Christians should be setting
an example by loving others
every day and in every way.
Jesus calls us to love others
in a sacrificial way. "A new
commandment I give to you,
that you love one another;
as I have loved you, that
you also love one another.
By this all will know that
you are My disciples, if you
have love for one another,"
(John 13:34-35).
As Jesus forgave Peter
when he denied that he
knew him, we are called to
forgive one another and to
keep God's love flowing in
our fellowship. After Peter
understood how much Jesus
forgave him for being fearful
sometimes and selfish other
times, then Peter learned to
forgive others like Jesus and
instructed us to do the same.
"Since you have purified
your souls in obeying the
truth through the Spirit in
sincere love of the brethren,
love one another fervently
with a pure heart," (1 Peter
1:22).

“Placed Before
the Lord”
1 Samuel 1:22 - Hannah
did not go up, for she said
to her husband, “As soon
as the child is weaned, I
will bring him, so that
he may appear in the
presence of the Lord and
dwell there forever."
One day there was a
teacher, teaching in a
house. The house was
small and crowded, so
crowded in fact that
people were straining
to squeeze through the
door until there was no
more room inside. As the
teacher taught, the crowd
stood shoulder to shoulder
and soaked up every
word. Soon the crowd in
the house heard a thump,
thump, thump. Then the
thump, thump, thump
turned into a crack, crack,
crack. The roof began to
tremble, and bits of dust
and pieces of ceiling fell
on heads and shoulders.
As every eye in the house
turned upward, a big
chunk of the roof fell in,
right in front of the teacher
and sunlight flooded the
room. Through the brand-
new hole in the ceiling,
four faces looked in,
stained with sweat, grime,
and tears. They began to
slowly lower a stretcher
down through the roof,
on it was a paralyzed
man, and it came to rest in
front of the Teacher. Then
the strangest thing of all
happened, the Teacher
looked up at the four men
on the roof and down
again at the paralyzed man
and told him, “Son, your
sins are forgiven."
1 Samuel 1 tells us the
story of Hannah, a woman
in ancient Israel who
wanted to be a mother.
She desired motherhood
so badly that she went to
the Tabernacle at Shiloh
to pour out her heart in
prayer before the Lord.
She begged God to give
her a son. Later, God heard
her prayer, she conceived,
and gave birth to a son -
Samuel. When Hannah
prayed, she made a vow to
the Lord - that she would
give her son back to Him.
1 Samuel 1:22, included
above, tells us that
Hannah fulfilled her vow
to the Lord and brought
her son, Samuel, the gift
that God gave her, back
to the Lord and placed
Him in the presence of the
Lord. Don’t miss the last
few words of that verse,
“and dwell there forever.”
It was the desire of that
mother’s heart to 1) bring
her son into the presence
of the Lord and 2) for
him to dwell there forever.
Dwelling in the Lord’s
presence forever means
to be given eternal life.
Hannah’s greatest desire
for her son was for him to
have eternal life!
As parents, we can
dream and desire a lot
for our children. We can
even plan out their lives
and direct them toward
futures we want them to
pursue - doctors, lawyers,
professional ball players,
future President of the
United States of America.
As parents, our desires
and dreams come from a
good place - we want our
children to go farther and
experience more success
than we have achieved
ourselves. As Christian
parents, the greatest desire
of our hearts, the desire
that should cover and
consume all other desires,
is for our children to dwell
in the Lord’s presence
forever - for our children
to have eternal life.
When the Teacher
looked down at the
paralyzed man and
said, “Son, your sins
are forgiven”, Jesus was
speaking to someone’s
son. Let this story be a
reminder to us of how
important it is to place our
children in the presence of
Jesus. That man’s friends
tore the roof off a house
because they realized the
importance of getting their
friend in front of Jesus.
What will you do to
get your children in front
of Jesus? What roofs will
you tear through? Will
you pour out your heart in
prayer for your children
to be saved? Will you
sacrifice and schedule
your week so that you
can take your children to
church every Sunday? If
only they can get before
Jesus! If only they will
come into His presence!
My greatest hope and joy
are to place my children in
front of Jesus and to hear
the Savior say, “Son, your
sins are forgiven."
