East Georgia Healthcare
provides low-cost options
and outreach programs

For those unfamiliar with East
Georgia Healthcare Center, this non
profit healthcare provider began 30
years ago in Swainsboro, GA. It came
about due to a group of people wanting
to expand healthcare access to all. It
is a non-profit organization that today
covers a service area of 13 counties,
with 15 delivery sites. Peyton Frye, who
is the practice manager for EGHC states,
‘EGHC offers a wide array of primary
care with providing well-checks, sick
visits, basic women's healthcare, family
planning services, chronic conditions”
and other services. Each delivery site
does differ in what services are provided.
EGHC also provides healthcare through
its outreach program which started as
Frye says, “through serving our seasonal
farm workers’. EGHC has 5 full-service
mobile units. They also provide healthcare
to students which they call “school-based
care.” This other branch of outreach EGHC
provides medical care to select elementary
schools in their coverage area. Their school-
based care outreach program began at
Claxton Elementary in Evans County, GA.
Medical care is not exclusively available
to the students but to the faculty, staff,
parents, and bus drivers as well. Frye states
this particular outreach program is, “very
successful, a mutually beneficial service”
with expansion plans to grow this service
to more students in their coverage area.
EGHC does bring its mobile unit to
Jenkins County Elementary on Wednesdays
and Thursdays. Jill Davis will be the new
PA providing healthcare to Jenkins County
students and staff this year, after having
been recently hired earlier this summer.
She will be taking over for FNP Brandon
Johnson, who provided care for both
Jenkins and Emmanuel County students.
He will be providing care to just Emmanuel
County students. Frye states, “we felt the
need to grow in both counties, we need to
hire an additional provider.” He also says,

“we work in conjunction with the school
nurse, but we are here to provide actual
medical visits.” The goal is to eventually
have a full-time clinic at Jenkins County
Elementary.
EGHC does offer tele-health
appointments, and through its school-based
program, they offer telehealth counseling
for behavioral and mental health. They
offer healthcare to all patients, whether
they are insured or non-insured, as well
as Medicaid and Medicare. EGHC is
considered a federally- qualified healthcare
center, meaning as Frye states, “there is
some congressional appropriated funds
coming from the federal government
through a HHS Hrsa grant.” No patients are
turned away at the clinics.
The locations of the clinics were chosen
by looking at public data regarding needs
for medical care in this community and
others. EGHC does have clinics located in
both Millen and Sylvania.
School-based clinics receive some of
their funds through both Georgia and the
federal government. In Millen, the EGHC
clinic is located at 1075 East Winthrope
Avenue. To schedule an appointment, you
can visit EGHC.org or call the Millen office
at 478-249-1200. Walk-Ins are accepted as
well. The Sylvania clinic is located at 330
Mims Road and their office number is 912-
451-5887.
