As the Mayor race in Millen is starting to heat up,
I wanted to share with you the history of Mayor's in
Millen and the years they served. I found this very
interesting. Please pay close attention to the men who
served for more than one term or served again a few
years later. It looks as if, at the time, they served a
two year term. However, some only served a one term
and we really don't know the reason. I am sure some
of you do. Please remember, this year's Mayoral Race
will have a debate on October 5, 2023 at 7:00 pm in
The Historic Pal Theatre on Cotton Ave. Make your
plans to attend.

Do you know what is
better than one baby goat?
TWO baby goats! My
husband and I had two
pregnant nanny goats. We
surmised that they may
have gotten pregnant at
the same time. We were
delighted when we came
home to discover not one
baby goat but two! Our
challenge occurred when
we attempted to ascertain
which baby belonged to
which momma. Our oldest
nanny goat (Renimi) is a
topaz colored goat. She
has had one kid (Buttercup)
that is white with lightly
tan markings. Our second
pregnant goat (Winnie) is
black with brown feet.
As we approached the
bam last week, I felt both
elation and terror. First,
that I could see a beautiful
little baby goat, standing in
the goat bam. My elation
was immediately followed
by terror as I noticed a
second baby that was lying
prone against the bam. My
immediate thought was
that it was dead - possibly
due to trampling because
our other four nanny goats
were in the bam with it.
I mshed over and lifted
its little body to get a closer
look. The momma goats
didn’t seem to mind since
my husband had provided
them with food! As it
happened, I woke the little
baby up and it was love at
first sight. We had two kids
in the bam - one was jet
black with speckled gray
ears that would remind
you of an Oreo Blizzard.
The second kid was white
but looked like a Holstein
cow on its head and neck.
Its feet had brown spots
outlined in black.
As my husband and I
watched, it appeared that
Remmi favored the black
baby while Winnie favored
the white one. We only had
to wait until the little things
got hungry. It was amusing
to watch the interaction.
Both nannies would sniff
at each of the babies. The
babies would go from
each momma sniffing
until they determined who
their momma was. As it
happens, our little blizzard
kid is Remmi’s - even
though she resembles
Winnie down to the white
spot on her side. We
watched as she toddled over
to Remmi and latched on.
Her little tail was wagging
furiously as she filled her
little belly with milk. At
the same time. Opal (that is
what we named her) - also
latched on to Winnie - her
tail wagging happily as she
too drank.
Over the course of the last
week, I have had the most
fun watching the two kids
prance and play in the bam.
Almost from the beginning,
they were already twisting
their heads mischievously
before flying in the air in
an ungraceful flip. I made
up my mind this week that
I needed an entire bam
full of baby goats! AND
of course they will need
Christmas sweaters...
ok.... That was when my
very logical husband put
his foot down. We have
what we have. Be thankful
of what we have got.
But still... think about the
possibilities.

PALAZZO by Danielle Steel. After her parents’ tragic
deaths, Cosima Saverio takes control of her family’s haute
couture clothing brand and the family palazzo in Venice,
and take care of her younger sister Allegra, who was injured
in the accident that killed their parents, and Luca, who is far
too fond of pretty women, parties, and poker. That’s a lot
to take on for a 23 year old! But when she meets handsome
Olivier Bayard, she finds herself wishing that she could step
away from her responsibilities and follow her own dreams.
Well, that’s all for now - see you at the library!
