Agriculture visits Carroll
Carroll EMC hosts agribusiness seminar

Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative held its
Fall Agribusiness Seminar on Monday, October 28,
2019. The annual event was held for the first time in
the new Tisinger Community Center, located at the
CEMC offices at 155 North Highway 113 in
Carrollton.
The speaker for the night was Gary W. Black, the
commissioner of agriculture for the state of Georgia.
Black spoke on the impact of agriculture in the state
and the ‘Georgia Grown’ program, a marketing and

Cason elected Carrollton mayor
McDougal elected Villa Rica mayor
Chaffin re-elected Bowdon mayor
3443 voters participated in Nov. 5th election out of 25,354:13.49%

The results are in for the November
5, 2019 Municipal Election and there
are some new faces in local govern
ment, while some incumbents won
new terms. Of the 25,527 citizens eli
gible to vote in the race, 3,443 - or
13.49% - cast a ballot. Of those,
1,308 voted in advance and 50 mailed
in absentee ballots.
Carrollton has its first female
mayor, with Betty Cason defeating
Incumbent Walt Hollingsworth. Cason
received 1,511 votes, or 60.63% of the
vote, while Hollingsworth received
978 votes, or 39.25%. Of the 2,492
votes cast, 1,091 were advanced, 23
were absentee by mail, and three were
write-ins.

Temple City Council/Mayor approve
holiday bonuses: $600 per full time
employee; $300 per part time

Temple City Council and Mayor
met at their regularly monthly sched
uled meeting at city hall on Monday,
November 4, 2019. Several orders of
business were addressed by the
members.
The council voted to select a com
pany to install two new light poles at
ballfields in the city park. The two
existing light poles have been deter
mined, through a structural inspection,
to be in a deteriorating condition.
Since this is not a budgeted item,
another project may have to be
delayed in order for the funds to be
available. City Administrator Bill
Osborne proposed delaying either the
walking trail project, the concession

Recycling changes at county
convenience centers: no more glass
recycling; plastics limited to two sites
Beginning Monday, November 11,
2019, there will be two major changes
to recycling at the county’s conven
ience centers. One change limits plas
tics recycling; the other change elimi
nates glass recycling.
Two convenience center sites, the
ne at Newnan Road and the one at
Dyer Road, will be the only two sites
where water bottles, soda bottles, and
milk jugs can be recycled. These plas
tics are identified with a number 1 or
number 2 inside of the recycling
symbol.
Glass recycling will no longer
accepted at any of the ten convenience
centers as of November 11th.

Tanner to build
new operating
suite for open
heart surgeries

Tanner Health System is moving ahead
with its plans to establish an open-heart sur
gery program in Carrollton. With open-heart
surgery, residents will be able to receive serv
ices - like coronary artery bypass graft
(CABG) surgery - without having to travel
out of the area. More than 200,000 CABG
procedures are performed nationally each
year.
“Building a comprehensive heart care pro
gram has been our goal for many years, and
we’ve worked steadily toward it,” said Loy
Howard, president and CEO of Tanner
Health System. “Heart disease is the leading
cause of death in our region, and as a com
munity healthcare organization, it’s our role
to offer the services our neighbors need to
have the best chance of surviving the
disease.”
The health system earned state approval to
expand its cardiac services, overcoming
objections from other regional hospitals.

County to open bidding
process for employee
health insurance
Insurance companies who wish to bid
for the county’s business may apply
next February with the county’s broker
The Carroll County Board of
Commissioners Chairman Michelle Morgan
has announced that the county will be accept
ing bids for handling the county’s 559
employees health insurance beginning next
February.

The Carroll County Veterans Memorial
Park Association iis a group of dedicated
citizens devoted to providing the Carroll
County Veteran’s Memorial Park to honor
and memorialize veterans in all wars from
the Revolution to the Gulf Wars.
They are committed to planning, build
ing, equipping and maintaining the Carroll
County Veterans Memorial Park which is
located at the roundabout on Newnan Road,
Carrollton (across from West Georgia
Technical College and near the Carroll
County Sheriff’s Office/jail).
The park is to honor all military veterans
of the United States of America who are
currently living in Carroll County, who have
lived in Carroll County at some time or who
have Carroll County connections and who
honorably served their country.
This includes any period of service in the
Armed Forces in which the individual is
currently serving or has been honorably
separated from active or inactive service,
beginning with the American Revolution.
The management, planning, developing,
administrations, fundraising for the park is
totally handled by the CCVMP Association.
Their mission is to honor Carroll County
veterans, veterans who once lived in Carroll
County, by placing their names on Walls of
Honor, with their branch, rank, and service
record. All wars in which Americans fought
are included.
The park also provides a place to assem
ble on Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day. It
is a place for families to visit for meditation,
remembering their loved one. It is also a vis-
