cuit Superior Court, notice is hereby given
that interested persons may apply for the po
sition of Associate Juvenile Court Judge by

Mr. James "Jimmy"
Corley, age 86, of Thom
aston, died Sunday, July
18, 2021, at Heritage Inn
Nursing Home in Barnes
ville.
Graveside funeral
services for Mr. Corley
were held Tuesday, July
20, in South View Ceme
tery, with Rev. Ted Ran
dier officiating.
Mr. Corley was born
April 13, 1935, in Upson
County to the late Dock
Corley and the late Delma
Helms Corley. He served
his country honorably in
the U.S. Army. He was
employed at Thomaston
Mills as an inventory con
trol manager, where he
retired after many years of
service in 1999.
He was a faithful
member of First Baptist
Church of Thomaston,
where he was a deacon
and Sunday school direc
tor for many years. He
was a devoted and loving
husband, father, and
grandfather.
Mr. Corley is survived
by his loving wife of 60
years, Mrs. Bobbie Ken
drick Corley; his son, Dr.
James Foy (Rita) Corley
of Thomaston; and his
two grandsons, James
(Janie) Corley and Jacob
Corley, both of Thomas
ton.

be with the Lord Friday,

Commons Nursing & Re
habilitation Center in

A graveside service
was held Sunday, July 25,
at Beaver Dam Baptist
Church Cemetery. Rev.
Michael Shook and Rev.
Ray Backer officiated.
The family received
friends Sunday in the
church sanctuary prior to
the graveside.
Joan was born in Cum
berland County, N.C. to
the late Lalister Bernard
(L.B.) Bryant, Sr. and
Mollie Parrish Bryant. She
was preceded in death by
her parents; her husband,
Lawrence Henry Gardner;
a sister, Maureen Bryant
Gardner; and brother,
Lalister Bernard Bryant,
Jr.
She leaves to cherish
her memory, her daugh
ter, Frankie Formy-Duval
and husband Mike of Lake
Waccamaw, S.C.; son, Dr.
William B. Gardner and
wife Lori of Thomaston;
sisters, Mary Jane Bryant,

dall Hay, age 64, of Thom
aston, passed away Friday,
July 23, 2021 at Upson
Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Hay was born
Oct. 18, 1956 in Thomas
ton, to the late J.C. Ran
dall and the late June
Skipper Randall. She was
formerly employed with
Walmart, where she
worked for 18 years until
her retirement. In ad
dition to her parents, she
was preceded in death by
her daughter, Nikki Ray-
bon Dean.
Survivors include her
son, Mr. Randy (Penny)
Raybon of Griffin;
brother, Mr. James Curtis
Randall of Thomaston;
significant other, Mr. Mi
chael Jones of Thomas

Mrs. Betty Imogene
Redding Newman, age 88,
of Thomaston, passed
away Saturday, July 24,
2021 at her residence.
Mrs. Newman was
born April 1,1933 in Pavo,
to the late William Edgar
Redding and the late Essie
Mae Key Redding. She
was formerly employed
with Walmart, where she
worked as a door greeter
for many years. Mrs. New
man was a member of Cal
vary Baptist Church in
Barnesville and the Upson
Regional Medical Center
Auxiliary, serving as a
Pink Lady.
In addition to her par
ents, she was preceded in
death by her husband,
Rev. Lawrence Newman,
Jr.
Survivors include her
daughters, Mrs. Connie
Newman (Everett) Sawyer
of Greenville and Miss.
Sandra Denise Newman
of Thomaston; sons, Colo

Mr. Pennymon was
born in Thomaston and
educated in Lincoln Park
School. He moved to
Cleveland, Ohio as a
young adult. He was em
ployed by U.S. Steel in
Cleveland, Ohio. He re
tired and returned to his
hometown.
He is survived by two
stepchildren, Malcolm
and Phyllis of Cleveland,
Ohio; five grandchildren,
Mario Pennymon of Dal
las, Texas, Marco Penny
mon, Preston Pennymon,
Lawrence Pennymon, and
Darnell Pennymon, all of
Cleveland, Ohio; two
sisters, Ms. Josephine
Pennymon and Mrs. Eve
lyn Pennymon Quiller,
both of Thomaston; two
devoted nephews, Mr.
Johnny Paul Pennymon
and Mr. Karl Pennymon,
both of Thomaston; and a
host of other nieces,
nephews, cousins and
other relatives and
friends.

Upson County COVID-19 Update
Sharp Increase Reported in Georgia New Cases
Upson County reports
3.538 positive COVID-19
cases with 133 deaths as
of noon last Tuesday, ac
cording to the Johns
Hopkins University &
Medicine Coronavirus
Resource Center.
Numbers reflect 11
new cases (up from
seven last week) and no
new deaths (no change)
since Tuesday one week
prior. During that time,
Upson’s per capita infec
tion rate increased
slightly to 13.49 cases per
100 residents. Pike
County at 13.09 per 100
residents, Lamar County
at 11.26 per 100, Monroe
at 10.18, and Taylor at
10.13 per 100 are the
Upson-adjacent counties
also exceeding i-in-10 in
fection rate. Meriwether
is at 9.92 per 100.

navirus Resource Center
reports Georgia with
1,163,818 (up 14,552
from last week — was
up 8,107 the previous
week) positive cases and
21,564 (up 64 from last
week — was up 65 the
previous week) deaths
as of noon last Tuesday.
Georgia reports 39.92
percent of its population
fully vaccinated.
