Abba House is a
Christian church with a
ministry for women with
addiction or mental health
problems. After an orien
tation period, women who
receive ministry can bring
their young children to
live and heal with them.
AH is one of the few pro
grams where children can
join mothers as they are
receiving ministry for
addiction. On the border
of Dawson and Forsyth
counties, AH is the safe
home many women have
never had. Local churches
and companies that part
ner with AH will have col
lection days where indi
viduals can bring food,
clothing, baby items and
furniture to help support
the ministries. Local
churches will provide
vouchers that can be
redeemed at Abba's
Treasures, a store Abba
House has opened at 6800

Silver City. Needed items
are food, clothing, baby
clothing, baby beds, stroll
ers, most other baby
items, sofas, dressers,
chairs, tables and other

The Chestatee Artists
'Colors of Summer'
exhibit will be on Display
at the Bowen Center for
the Arts from July 6-27.
The exhibit will feature
over 80 works from mod
ern to classical art, glass,
ceramics, stained glass
and more. All exhibits are
free and open to the pub
lic. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4

The Georgia
Mountains Master
Gardeners invites the
public to join their
upcoming program on
Monday, July 9.The pro
gram, "Permaculture,"
will be presented by
Elizabeth Sweet, an
English teacher at Woody
Gap School.
Permaculture is an ethi
cal design system for
ecological and sustain
able living. In addition,
the GMMG members will
convene at 6:30 p.m. to
receive a presentation by
Brooke Nations, regional
director of the Georgia
Master Gardener's
Association, of a grant
award of $500 to be used
over the next year for
their Junior Master
Gardener's Program,
which is for third, fourth
and fifth graders at
Lumpkin County
Elementary School. Also
prior to the program, the
GMMG 2018 scholarship
winners will be intro
duced. In late May, Erin
Nicole Jones from
Dawson County High
School received a $1,000
college scholarship from
the group. Sweet's pre
sentation will begin at 7
p.m. in the Lumpkin
County Parks and
Recreation Building, 365
Riley Road, in Dahlonega.
The program is free and

The Dawson County
Library is hosting
Literary Cupcake Wars
from 4 to 5 p.m. July 11.
Kids grades 6-12 are
encouraged to come put
their creativity to the test
using frosting and cup
cakes as their medium.
Participants will decorate
their cupcake in the
theme or spirt of their
favorite book and the
cupcakes will be judged
by a panel of librarians.
Prizes will be awarded to
the best cupcake artists.
Race for Grace 5K is
scheduled for Saturday,
July 14 at Veterans
Memorial Park.The run
will begin at 8 a.m.
Dawsonville Fit Body
Boot Camp is hosting the
5k race to honor Grace

Bus" from 10 a.m. to 2
