We understand that we are open the same hours as most working people.” The final day to make in-office payments for 2018 property taxes is Friday, Nov. 30 and Stewart’s office will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. to accommodate those trying to get their payments in last minute. Property tax payments can be made online at dawsoncountytax.com by following the property tax payment link on the left side of the home screen. Property owners can search for their bill by entering their name, address or bill number and then follow on-screen instructions to pay via credit card (VISA, MC, Discover, Amex) Paypal or Paypal credit. Checks can also be made out and mailed to: Dawson County Tax Commissioner, 25 Justice Way, Suite 1222, Dawsonville, Ga. 30534. Regular office hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The office is on the first floor of the Dawson County Courthouse. All county offices will be closed Nov. 22-23 in observance of Thanksgiving. For more information or questions, call the Dawson County Tax Commissioner’s office at (706) 344-3520. OBITUARIES Robert 'Bruz' Brookshire Robert “Bruz” Brookshire, 49, of Dacula, died Nov. 14, 2018. Mr. Brookshire was born Aug.13, 1969. For a number of years he coached youth football in Dacula. A loving and devoted father, he was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman. His brother, Troy Shane Brookshire; aunt, Sheila Lockridge; and uncle, Danny Sheffield, preced ed him in death. Survivors include his wife, Michelle Brookshire of Canon; children, Robert Cade Brookshire, Michael Bo Brookshire, Carli Wheeler; mother, Linda Brookshire of Winder; father, Ray Brookshire of Ranger; brothers and sis- ter-in-law, Steve Brookshire of Ranger, Wesley and Tracey Brookshire of Colorado; grandmother, Floy Sheffield of Winder; niec- es, Abbey, Maddy, Vanessa; lifelong friend and hunting buddy, Dorsey Forsyth of Cumming; a number of special cousins; various other relatives also sur vive. Mr. Brookshire will be laid to rest in his family’s plot at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Dawsonville. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Dawson County News November 21, 2018 Ruth Catherine Hummel Ruth Catherine Hummel, 92, of Dawsonville, formerly of Florida, died Nov. 16, 2018. Ruth lived a long and active life. She loved to quilt and go to White Water with her grandchil dren. Ruth was born in Philadelphia in 1926. She enjoyed roller-skating, even up to the age of 80. While roller skating was one of her favorite things to do, her family was number one. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Joseph Hummel; her parents; her siblings, and grandson, Nathan Stanley. She is survived by her children, Joseph Elwood Hummel, Janet Ruth Weinman, Edward Alexander Hummel and Richard Harrison Hummel; grandchildren, Shelley Caine, Joe Freeman, John David Hummel, Joshua Hummel, Christie Hummel, Cyndi Hummel and Angie Stanley; great grandchild, Trinity Hummel; and grand-pup, Monty; various other rel atives also survive. Dawson County News November 21, 2018 William 'Bill' Leonhardt William “Bill” Leonhardt, 70, of Dawsonville, died Nov. 15,2018. He was born Sept. 2, 1947 in Jamaica, Queens , N.Y. to Margaret Colgan Leonhardt and William Leonhardt. He grew up in New Hyde Park and Melville, N.Y. Bill was active in the Dawsonville community serving on the board of governors of Athens Boat Club, vice president of the Dawsonville Lions Club and vice president of the Dawson County Friends of the Library. He was active in his church serv ing as a Shepherd minis ter, usher and working with Family Promise of Forsyth County. Growing up on Long Island he was Boy Scout and a volunteer fireman of the Melville Fire Department and on their EMS rescue squad. His daughter, Andrea Leonhardt, and sister, Kathleen Fardig, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dianne Stagl Leonhardt; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey Leonhardt-Garbos and Andrew Garbos; son and daughter-in-law, William and Amy Garrett Leonhardt; granddaugh ters, Katie Garbos, Leyna Leonhardt, Ava Garbos, and Leigha Leonhardt; sisters and brothers-in- law, Linda Leonhardt Ryczak and Albert Ryczak, Carl Fardig, Peter Stagl, Kathryn Stagl, Sharon Stagl Doherty and John Doherty; his grand- dog Bella, who had a spe cial place in his heart; var ious other relatives also survive. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 29 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cumming. There will be a gathering following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers dona tions can be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church at 1125 Bettis Tribble Gap Road Cumming, or the Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association at www.ecaware.org. Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrange ments. Dawson County News November 21, 2018 Donald Matheson Donald Matheson, 70, of Dawsonville died Nov. 13,2018. Donald was born Jan. 14, 1948 to the late Bob and Regina Matheson. A native of Helen, he lived most of his life in Dawson County. For many years he trav eled the country as a pharmaceutical salesman in the poultry industry. After his retirement and for the past 10 years, he enjoyed selling boiled peanuts at the Tractor Supply in Dawsonville. When he wasn’t work ing he enjoyed spending time at his place on the river in Helen. His grandkids were his life and he enjoyed every minute he got to spend with them. He was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church. A sister, Connie Clark, and a brother, Buck Matheson, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Judy Matheson of Dawsonville; sons and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Angel Matheson of Dawsonville, Cotton Matheson of Dawsonville; grandchil dren, Blake Matheson, Cody Matheson, Kate Williamson, Alexis Matheson; sister-in-law, Joan Matheson of Gainesville; brothers-in- law and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Lynn Townley of Dawsonville, Jackie and Lynn Townley of Dawsonville; and a num ber of nieces, nephews; various other relatives also survive. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Nov. 16 at Liberty Baptist Church with Revs. Dennis Bottoms, Ruel Martin and Stephen Davis officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
