By Bob Christian

Traveling to Rome for the
second time in two weeks, the
Dawson County swim team
took part in their third meet of
the season on Nov. 29 at a tri
meet hosted by the Wolves of
Rome County High School
and attended by the
Cartersville Hurricanes.
Over the course of the days
24 events it became apparent
that the strength of Dawson
County was in their relay
teams as the quartet of Logan
Starr, Garret Perez, Matthew
Wood and Will Mulberry post
ed the team’s highest finish of
the day with a second place
finish in the boy’s 200-yard
medley and went on to post a
scoring finish in the 200-yard
freestyle.
Wood continued his stand
out performance as an individ
ual swimmer as he posted his
second state qualifying time in
the 100-yard butterfly and a
second place finish in the 100-
yard backstroke.
Wiley Dennis (500-yard
freestyle) and Mulberry (100-
yard freestyle) rounded out the
team’s points with scoring
performances in each of their
individual events.
The girls’ relay team, con
sisting of Lindsey LeBaron,
Kara Starr, Grace Shippey and
Ayla Miller led the way for the
Lady Tigers with scoring fin
ishes in their two events of the
day: the 200-yard medley and
the 200-yard freestyle.
Strong individual races from
Miller in the 50 and 100-yard
freestyle and scoring perfor
mances from Starr and senior
Frankie Muldoon completed
the scoring for the girls’ team.
At the end of the day, the
championship-caliber team
fielded by Rome High School
overwhelmed their competi
tion and won the meet handily
with an overall final score of
304 points.
The Dawson County swim
team dove into action again at
the swimming facilities of
Cass High School on Dec. 4
but results were not available
as of press time.

Coach Steve Sweat. “We

Lady Leopards as part of
the North Georgia High
School Showcase on the
University of North
Georgia campus.
Banks County found
success early in the first
period and quickly
opened a 13-5 lead. They
were able to run a fast-
paced, passing offense
that allowed outside
shooters Amber Williams
and Jaycie Bowen to drop
buckets with ease while
the Lady Tigers struggled
to drive the lane and were
unable to mount any
offense.
The second quarter fea
tured the same fast-paced
offense from the Lady
Leopards, but the shoot
ers changed as Pollie
Simpson and Heather
Vaughan added shots
from the outside to help
Banks County extend
their lead to 27-16 at the
half.
Changing gears in the
third, the Lady Tigers
came out and aggres
sively challenged the
Leopards defense, send
ing Sticker and sopho
more Bella Henson to
the free-throw line mul
tiple times, where they
went for a combined 8
of 9 and brought
Dawson County to with
in a dozen points, trail
ing 41-29, at the begin
ning of the fourth peri
od.
Dawson County final
ly outscored Banks
County in the fourth
period as Sticker found
success from 3-point
land, dropping two shots
from distance to close
the gap, and sopho
mores Maddie Anglin
and Shyla Sheffield also
came to life, adding
points in the come from
behind effort.
Unfortunately, the effort
fell just short as the
buzzer sounded on a
final score of Banks
County 53 to Dawson
County’s 50.
“We have got to find a
way to get started quick
er,” said Coach Sweat.
“Banks jumped out to a
13-5 first quarter lead,
but the girls kept bat
tling through the whole
game. We scored the
most points in the fourth
quarter (21).”
The Lady Tigers took
their 3-2 record on the
road to Fannin County
for their first conference
game of the season
against the Lady Rebels
on Dec. 4. Results were
unavailable as of press
time.

Winning four of the
matches with pins, and
two extended matches on
points, Dawson County
continued their streak of
wins with a final score of
57-21.
Tournament host North
Oconee was next on the
list and it was there that the
Tigers ran into their first
trouble on the day as the
Titans quickly jumped out
to the lead by winning the
first four matchups. The
Tigers quickly fought back
with three victories of their
own, but momentum shift
ed back to the Titans with
five pins in a row to hand
Dawson County their first
loss of the season by a total
of 45-33.
In their final contest
Dec. 2, Dawson County
faced off against the West
Hall Spartans in a series of
bouts across all weigh cat
egories. Notable for the
fact that every match
ended with a pin, the
Tigers rapidly took the
lead and never looked back
as they wracked up a 72-12
win to finish up the day
and move their season
record to 9-1.
The Tigers were in
action against the teams
from White County and
Chestatee High School in a
tri-meet hosted by DCHS
on Dec. 4, but results were
unavailable as of press
time.

race, Dennis put the

on alert by finishing in

Ryan McGinnis dis
played the future of
Dawson County with his
pace in the freshman
race.
“Footlocker consists
of some of the best run
ners from across the
southeast and features
many state champions,”
Beusse said. “While it’s
not a race affiliated with
DCHS, it’s a fun way for
our runners to test them
selves against some of the
best in the nation.”
One of four qualifiers,
the South Regional fea
tured runners from
Florida, Texas, Kentucky,
South Carolina, North
Carolina, Alabama,
Georgia, Oklahoma,
Tennessee, Arkansas,
West Virginia and
Louisiana. The top 10
runners, along with two
alternates, move on to the

that takes place in late
December in San Diego,
Calif.

If you are looking for a snuggle bug, then Brad is the perfect dog for you. Brad is a 5 year old
Beagle mix and he is full of surprises. This handsome guy is full of energy and loves to play, but
also loves to just lay around in his giant bed. He seems to do well with other dogs. We are not
sure how he is with cats. He does seem to do well on a leash. As long as you keep him on a
routine for potty breaks he seems to be house trained as well. Brad is very playful and loves to
play with toys.
Come by the shelter and take this cute guy for a walk!
