Now that the foot hall season is aliout on us and the prospects of a fine team for the University is in sight, it may lie well to mention here an old grievance, and hope that those who read this will take the hint conveyed therein. Every one, we feel sure, wants to see a team gotten together which will do credit to our College ami we know all the hoys will do what they can to seo this result realized. The hoys I" columns the schedule of the Georgia Railroad. This schedule occupied about twenty or twenty-four inches of advertising space, and in return thi‘ company extended to last year’s Hoard the courtesy of a pass. When the publication of the weekly was resumed this year, the same proposition was made to the road in a letter addressed to the General Passenger Agent. In reply to this we received a curt and busi ness like note from that, official, in which wo were informed that it is not the custom of the road to advertise in such periodicals and declining our request.— ' This is a brief statement of the ease. Now as to our object in this matter. We did not ask the pass fi r the personal use and any mem bers of the Hoard, hut only that through it we could reach the peo ple of Augusta, and induce them to advertise in and subscribe for our paper. An increase in the number of our advertisers and subscribers, means a consequent increase in the si/.e and merit of Tiik Rm> ami Hi.ack. In this every ’Varsity man is concerned and interested. Now as regards the position of the railroad. Its right to refuse “to advertise in such periodicals” no one, of course, will deny. Although, to a casual observer, the courtesy of a pass extended to the representa tive weekly of the University of Georgia by the Georgia Railroad Uo., and in consideration of adver tising at least toil times its value to as, would uot mean too great a train on the generosity of its otfic- als. We must live, fellow-students, uid “God helps those who help themselves." If you wish our pa per to prosper, patronize those who tdvertisi in our columns. 103 JACKSON si A ,| MIRICK WILL MARK Cabinet Photocraphs For the Students at $2.00 DOZE1T JOHN T JACKSON, HVL ERCHAWT T-A-IXjOE,.
