I'H E RED AND BLACK
A GRAND FETE DAY
Field l)ay commence* sooner this
year than usual, hut from appear
slices, ami the interest that is being
taken in it, more records will he
broken this year than a»er before.
April the eighth, the day that has
been set aside for it, will be a day
that will be remembered by every
one.
A very interesting program has
been arranged, which, if carried
out, will make the old University
shine in all its glory.
The program is as follows:
12 to I 1*. M., a grand parade will
be given through the principal
streets of Athens by the Tha/ians
with full baud and costumes.
3 to 5 I*. M. the Held day everci-
ses will lie had on the campus,
where a number of world records
as well as University records will
be broken.
8 to II I*. M. the Thalians will
present the grandest performance
they have ever yet given, which
will be a climax to all their past
achievements, and at which the
pri/.es won on Held day will lie de
livered. After this performance a
grand University Hop will be given
to the prize winners at Deupree
Hall.
With this program carried out
the day will be complete with
events tlujt will show the I Diver
sity boys off in their every capac
ity from the manliest of all sports
to the grace and chivalry of the
ball room, where they can vie with
one another for prizes, milch more
valuable and to be desired than any
won on Athletic Field.
THE ANNUAL OF '96.
The editors of the Uandora fdr
Uti ire determined to get out a vol
ume that will do credit to the Uni
versity of Georgia, and they want
the helping hand of the college
body. It will be a hard task for
the editors to accomplish anything
at all, if they do not have the aid
of the men who call contribute to
the success of this year’s unnii.il.
1s t every man who can write try
his hand, and those who cannot,
contribute to the Pandora's success
by ordering two or three extra cop
ies. The editors are not yet over
run with contributions. It will be
an lienor to have a piece in the
Pandora- a thing of which the wri
ter may be proud.
This year's annual must lie a suc
cess financially. I beg of every
man in college who has not ordered
a copy of the Pandora to give his
order for one or more to any one
of the editor* before the end
of next week. I suppose you under
stand that the number of annuals
ordered will Ik 1 published and no
more, and if you have uot ordered
one previous to it* publication you
cannot buy a single copy. We want
to get the book out sooner this year
than last, and we have but a few
weeks to gel all the matter in
shape for the printer.
There is needed a great deal more
matter, an i we have only a short
time to get it in. I,et every one
who has a piece to go in hand it to
Mr. Hall or any of the editors as
soon as possible. Hope that every
man will help in making the Pan
dora a great success this year.

S33H OUR LATEST EAD IN-
AN EXCELLENT ATTRACTION.
Miss Virginia Stuart’s play “A
Woman of War ' which will he one
the attractions at our theatre the
coming week, is based upon actual
occurrences, finding its counterpart
in the events that occurred around
about Port Hudson in the trying
limes of the Utu war. A woman
who aids the cause to which her
heart binds her by giving informa
tion from within the enemies lines
is not a new character to the stage,
lull the dramatist of this play lias
made a charming and admirable
woman of her—a confederate wo
man of whole-souled devotion and
enthusiasm, whose reckless courage
and fearless defiance will certainly
gain the sympathies of her auditors.
She has surrounded her with char
acter* equally as elear cut, as well
steadied, and lias blended the
whole by clever dramatio scenes
which cannot help but please.
There is much of Southern sympa
thy and feeliug hi the work, but it
it bandied in such a happy manner
that no oue can take offense at it,
and a* a veteran of the Confederate
army expressed it: “It is all very
real and vivid, and the portrayal of
those troublous times has been sig
nally well reflected.” Monday night
has been set for its presentation by
Manager Howe.
