fail him. He said, though, that the
money he had paid Mr. Short was a
nominal hiiiii, only sufficient to cov

Mr. J. I*. Shannon, also of Elber-

team, has stated emphatically that
Mr. Short played upon their team,
in no way as a professional, but only I being dishonest in our athletics.

He neglects to add—by accident,

fact was known to him. And yet,

members of our base ball team,

we have deferred the matter till
now.
In regard to the charge against
Mr. Nalley for having received pay
for his board for two mouths, we
will state that it is true, and there
was never any attempt on our part
lo conceal the matter. We will add,
however, that this money was given
to cover his expenses, and that un- played with Short when the latter

Until Mr. Shannon and Mr. Jones
have since agreed to make affidavits
that Mr. Short had been paid only
his expenses, and the Athletic
Council will take movements to
have the Executive Committee re
consider their action.
A majority of the Executive Com
mittee of the S. I. A. A. declared
Mr. Short ineligible. We believe
that the committee was wrong in its i looked forward
decision. We considered Mr. Short
eligible before the action of the
committee, and we still hold to the
same belief. We acquiesced, how
