Yesterday afternoon Marion Du- Bose amt Howell Erwin contested for the Patterson cup. The atten* dance was very large, and every one enjoyed the brilliant plays of both men. DuBose was the favorite, but Erwin proved himself to be very nearly DuBose’* equal. The first set was won by DuBose, the soore being 6-2. The second waj> won by Erwin, with the score 6 to 4. Du- Bose won the third and fourth sets, the score being 6-3, 6-4 respectively. Mr. DuBose will hold the cup un til uext Spring, when he will ho called upon to defend it.
