Then If. M. Charlton, Law,
1900, showed what stuff his col
lege spirit is made of when it
comes to the pinch ; and you
will please observe what kind of
alumni the Savannah brand is,
and how they act when 3*011 say
“ University” to them. This is
the way they treated us:

Oratorical Contest.
cision of the judges. This much,
however, to our future repre
sentatives. Remember that there
are two sets of judges, one on
composition and one on delivery.
Mercer’s man has won every
year by being first in composi
tion. Therefore let Georgia
profit by this lesson and he pre- .
pared in the future.
As said before, Georgia’s con
tingent, with her yells and songs
was there by a big majority and
supported Moore in a royal man
ner. They deserve great credit
for this. They did lasting good
to the University hv so doing.
Agnes Scot t Institute and
Washington Seminary were
there each en masse, and each
wearing Georgia’s colors. It is
a source of great regret that
through an unfortunate hitch
in the arrangements, no seats
were reserved for the young la
dies of these institutions. It
might he well to say iu this
connection that this was no fault
of the University, lint that the
officials of the association made
the mistake in some unaccount
able way. Georgia is proud of
the fact that these institutions
so loyally supported her, and is
exceedingly sorry that they were
treated in a negligent manner
at the contest.
Taken as a whole the contest
was decidedly the most succes>-
ful iu the history of the associ
ation. Every one who was
present on last Wednesday even
ing will testify to this fact, and
every one who was not present
missed half his life. Georgia is
not in tin* least discouraged by
tliis defeat, hut she will come
again next year, and enter the
oratorical battle as determined
and as hopeful as ever. Here’s
to Georgia in victory or defeat
