THE KED AXL) BLACK.
Foot I tali Prospect*.
The candidates for the foot-
hall team are now practicing
daily and have
now
been since the
opening of tlu* University. In
response to Captain McCntch-
en's call, about thirty tnen have
responded ami more are expected
on the field daily. The outlook
is encouraging, but hard and
conscientious work only will
bring success this year.
The necessity of building up
an entirely new team adds to
the difficulty of the task and
every man with any knowledge
whatever of the game, or who
desires to learn it . should don
his uniform and appear daily
for practice. There is no reason
why the University of Georgia
should not have one of the best
teams of the South providing
the students give the team their
unqualified support and help the
management in every way to
turn out a winning team. The
candidates have been called to
the training table, and are now
expected to follow a strict course
of training. Every person can
help them in this direction by
refraining from putting temptn-
tions in their way and discourag
ing any refraction of the rules
on tin" part of the men. With
the captain, coach candidates!
and University students as a
whole in thorough concord and
harmony, the friends of the
University should he able tolodk
with pride at the close of the

were sworn in. There were so
many new members that all of
them could not Ih> called on for
speeches, consequently only a
few of tlie best speakers were
given an opportunity to express
their thoughts in regard to Phi
Kappa Society. So much time
was spent in taking in new
members that nothing else was
done. Some of the best speak
ers of the new men in college
were taken in. and these, with
what Phi Kappa already had,
will very probably put Phi
Kappa in the lead, not only in
numbers, but also in oratory.
