■p QA. 12. TECH o. First (lame an Easy Victory for the Red and Black. Much to the delight of the many football enthusiasts in At lanta the clouds cleared away and Saturday afternoon was bright and sunny. The park began to fill rapidly j with people and at 8:30 when the kick-off occurred, there was a crowd of 850 ns witnesses of the contest. The grand stand was filled with girls from Washington Semina ry, all of whom wore Tech col ors, and the wearers of the Yel low and White far outnumbered the Georgia boys, on the bleach ers. A small but enthusiastic number of Georgia rooters gntli- ered in one corner of the bleach ers, and cheered the team on to victory. The ’Varsity team by a suc cession of line bucks and end runs rushed the ball rapidly down the field, and Capt. Mc- t'utcheon crossed the line for a touch down after five minutes of play. *A repetition of the same tactics secured another touch down shortly before time was called for the first half. The ’Varsity team was visi bly tired during the second half and their play lack**d the dash and vim which characterized their work during the earlier part of the game. The line weakened, and th° backs seemed unable to gHin much ground, and the call of time found the score the same. This shows that the men should train con scientiously. The team as a whole played well, and played hard. The in terference was good and the team played fairly well togeth er. The Techs were no weak antagonists, and we feel well satisfied with the team's show ing for the first game; but a noticeable improvement must take place if we defeat Sewanee. Some of the backs would go into the line backwards, and a ten dency to fumble was occasional ly noticed. To mention any one player would perhaps be an injustice to the others, but among the fea tures of the game were Gor don's tackling, Dorsey’s all- around work, and Dickinson’s line bucking and end runs. Kidley and Baxter got down the field after punts in go<xl style, and the former kicked well. Monk, Hewlett* and McCutch- eon played, good hard ball, and there is* no especial fault to be found with any one man—but the whole team needs hard practice. TilK OAMB IN DETAII.. Techs kick oil'.
