Mr. Richard M. Charlton, ’00
Law, visited here last week. lie

Frank Barrett, who has been
sick at his home in Augusta was
able to return to college the
last of the week.
Misses Gertrude and Isabel
Thomas,after spending the sum
mer on the Continent returned
home last week.
Geo. Burney, who was here
in ’95-’96 visited the Phi Delta
Thetas Wednesday for a few
hours.
Prof. Patterson was on the
sick list last Tuesday. His ab
sence will be excused by the
student committee all right.
Judge Howell Cobb will at
tend the Presbyterian Synod,
which meets at Milledgeville
Wednesday.
Chancellor Hill, Professors
Patterson and Park’s attended
the foot ball game in Atlanta,
Saturday.
The Trustees will meet in
Atlanta next week for the pur
pose of asking the Legislature
for a centennial appropriation.
Mr. Percy duP. Whitaker,
North Carolina, '98, was in the
city last week, representing .1.
F. Newman, the fraternity jew

Misses Henderson and Rankin
two of the most charming young
ladies of North Carolina will be
at the home of Mr. Jno. Welch
the first of November.
Mr. Albin Hajos, the photo
grapher made a picture of the
foot-ball squad last Wednesday.
The picture was taken on the
chapel steps and it was quite a
fierce looking crowd.
A special will leave Athens
over the Seaboard on Nov. 2nd,
to carry the crowd to the Ora
torical contest. A rate of $1.50
or less will be secured.
The Kappa Alpha fraternity
will hold a State Convention in
Atlanta at the time of the Ora
torical contest. Nearly all of
the Georgia K. A.’s will be pre
sent.
The Misses Thomas will give
a house party at the elegant
home of their father on Mil-
| ledge avenue, from Nov. 3rd to
10th. They will have as their
guest five very beautiful and
popular young ladies.
Friday’s Constitution con
tained Georgia’s Oratorical rep
resentative's, Mr. Glenn Leg-
wins, picture with the name of
Hon. Byron Bower. The Con
stitution begs the pardon of
, both the student and the poli
tician.

Supplementary Drill.
By a new rule of Col. Griggs
all cadets absent from any drill
have to make it up on Thurs
day.

Princeton.
Three Princeton Freshmen re
cently stole the clapper from
the “Old North Church” bel
fry, and were caught by the
Proctors. A fine of $80 apiece
was placed upon them but they
hit upon upon apian of making
the large clapper into small
ones, which they will sell as
souvenirs to the class. Thus
they will be able to pay the fine.

The Engineering Society.
On Wednesday evening at 8
o’clock the Engineering Society
of tho University will begin its
work for this college year. This
Society was organized in 1889,
has been a strong factor in in
creasing the interest among the
| students in Scientific matters.
All branches of science find a
| place in its list of lectures and
discussions.
The opening lecture will be'
given by Prof. Strahan on the!
subject of Maps and Map-
[ making," including an account
of the work of tho United States
Geological Survey. Those who
have heard Prof. Strahan’s de
lightful lectures before this So
ciety in the past will be glad to
I hear him again on this very in
teresting subject. Officers of|
the Society and of the Annual
will bo elected also. All mem
bers of the University and the j
citizens of Athens are cordially
invited to be present. The
meeting will be held in the
Physics lecture room on the sec
