Georgia Loses Her First
Game of the Season to Tech
Through Series of Ghastly Errors Tech Secures Lead in First Part
of the Game. Georgia Rallies Nobly in the Seventh.

Overworked by examinations,
Georgia met her first defeat
of the year last Wednesday when
Tech taking advantage of our
rocky play, nosed out ahead.
Score 5 to 4.
A single glance at the error
column will show how the gume
was lost. While our fellows were
indulging in all sorts of juggling
stunts and wild throws the
Techs were playing the game for
all it was worth, taking advan
tage of our every miscue and
hitting at critical moments.
When our fellows did finally
wake up they made a most gal
lant and hair raising effort but
could not over conte the great

hall and was hacked up in mag
nificent style by the whole Tech
team w ho gave him errorless sup
port. Sullivan out pitched him
but was not supported. He was
only hit for runs after his team
had had Chances to retire the
side. He sirv<ck out twelve men
and gave up only four hits.
Franklin for Georgia and
Hamilton for Tech lead the hat
ting. Erwin, Stiles and Hay did
some pretty fielding, and Gins
berg’s sensational catch was a
brilliant one.
The largest crowd of the sea
son looked on w hile the follow
ing tragedy was enacted for
their delectation.
Hamilton first up lines out a
single to center, Huberts hits to
Sullivan who throws wild to sec
like a sure hit. Wright fans.
Watson flies out to left, Frank
lin drives a hit between third
and short, steals second, Mc
Donald beats out a slow hit to
short stop. Both runners advance
on a passed ball. Erwin hits to
second, is out ut first while
Franklin scores, Derrick is head
ed at first by Wright. Hits 2,
Huns I.
Third inning. Erwin makes a
big league stop of Stiles hard
drive, and tosses him out at first,
Hamilton rolls a slow one past
pitcher and is safe on Ginsberg’s
error. Roberts hits to Derrick
and Hamilton is out at second,
Roberts goes to second on Gins
tempts to steal third but is
thrown out by Brown.
Brown out, pitcher to first,
McWhorter flies out to Day,
Ginsberg walks and is immedi
ately caught napping.
Fourth inning. Beane reaches
first on Ginsberg’s wild throw,
perches on second while Derrick
throws Lafitte out at first, Day
reaches first on an error by Gins
berg, while Beane lands on third,
Day steals second, Butler saws,
then Knight lines a beauty out
to right center scoring Beane
and Day, Wright hits to Derrick
who throws Knight out ut sec
ond, Ginsberg covering the bag.
Hits 1, Runs 2.
Sullivan strikes out, Watson
favors Day, Franklin saws.
Fifth inning. Stiles fans,
, Hamilton slashes to left for one
ond to head Hamilton, Bean is base, Roberts hits to Ginsberg
out, pitcher to first, and Me- who heads Hamilton at second,
Donald takes a shot at Old Col- Roberts goes to second on Der-
lege allowing Hamilton to score rick’s bad throw to iirst, Beane
placing Roberts on third, Lafitte readies first by a bit between
hits to Derrick and is out at first, short and third, steals second,
scoring Roberts, Day saws. Hits Roberts scores on a pass ball,

ond, Sullivan strikes out but
Stiles get the put out as Knight
drops the third strike.
Second inning. Butler can’t
touch it, Knight lines out*to
Ginsberg, who cut off what looked

Wright saws.
Brown pops out to Stiles, Mc

thrown out by Erwin after
another pretty stop, Hamilton
balloons to left n nd Holier Is hiiws.
Sullivan semis a hot. one ut
Stiles who makes u sensational
stop but can’t recover in time,
Watson advances him by u
screamer down the third base
line, Franklin drives one down
the first base line, scoring Sulli
van and Watson, and himself
landing on third, McDonald is
out, second to first, while Frank
lin scores. Erwin and Derrick
both go out from short to first.
Eighth imiing, Beane strikes
out, Lafitte is thrown out by
Derrick, Day takes the count.
Brow u drives one to center
and Day gathers it in, McWhor
ter comes to the lint uud the
crowd is wildly enthusiastic, lie
hits a beauty to left center for
one bag, McDonald runs for him,
goes to second on u passed ball,
und is sacrificed to third by
Ginsberg, Sullivan retires the
side with a grounder to Stiles.
Ninth uud last. Butler saws,
Knight grounders to first, and
Wright suws.
Watson pops out to third,
Franklin flies out to left, and
McDonald hits to Butler who out
runs him to first.

Northern Trip
Fifteen Men With Home Run Knack

While the soldier boys arc en
joying the delights of cainp life
in Guinsville und striking the
fair daughters of Brenuu with
admiration, the Imseball warriors
will be on the truil through the
green fields of Virginia and the
great chief’s council houses in
W ashington.
On Monday they will swoop
down on the peucefu) hamlet of
(irecnville und endeavour to give
the sons of Furman all that’s
coming to them.
Tuesday und Wednesday they
will remain in the national city,
enguged in entertaining George
town and George Washington
Universities respectively.
Thursday, Memorial day, is as
yet unprovided for, and doubt
less will he uu oil' duy, also spent
in Washington, when o u r
braves will probably call on the
government heads and help them
out with a few kindly tips. Fri
day and Saturday will be given
over to an attempt to tame the
tierce followers of Thomas Jef
ferson in the lodge established
by him at Ghurldttesville, the
University of Virginiu. Virginia
put Vale to the bad Saturday so
their defeat would be quite a
feather in our cap.
Twelve players und two non-
combatants, Coach Stoucli and
Manager 1-evy, will make the
trip. Examinations have inter
fered with practice this week,
hut with all worries left behind,
they will be in line condition
and should make things extreme
ly warm for the folks they lock
horns with.
