GEORGIA GETS TWO OUT OF THREE
Alabama Slips Up On Our Crips in First Game, But They Rally and Win the next Two
Games With Ease.
ALABAMA TAKES FIRST
On Thursday w i t It three
regulars out of the game Geor
gia showed a great reversal in
form, a reaction from the strain
of the week before, and Alabama
walked off with the opening
game.
Score 8 to 4-
The weather made several
threatening gestures but offered
no violence. This conduct was
enough to frighten the folks,
and only a fair crowd was out.
The band played every time
Georgia came to the bat and the
crowd cheered, but our fellows
seemed to have some trouble in
locating southpaw Gray's rain
bows. He pitched pretty good
ball, getting himself into many
. holes, but somehow or other
managing to glide out. Only
once did the glide arrangement
fail to work properly. In the
fourth two men hit safe and he
gave three bases on balls in sue
cession. Then he hoisted a dis
tress signal. Sanders swapped
places with him for the remain
ing third of an inning, and his
short performance passed one
man and the next was put out at
first base.
Hodgson pitched five innings
and was extremely wild. Mc
Whorter succeeded him and held
the visitors to one tally. Mc
Donald played magnificent ball,
getting twenty-two put outs
without a miscue. Derrick made
a beautiful play in the sixth. On
an attempted steal, he fell full
length to take Brown’s throw,
and tagged his man from this
position. “Pete” Daley made
his debut at third and showed up
well. He got a hit, and in the
sixth cut ofl' a runner at home
by a pretty throw.
ners camped on second and third. |
Noojin scored on a wild pitch.
Harris lined out to Walker, who
attempted to double Jones on
third, but threw before Daley
reached the bug, and Jones
scored. Caffey was thrown out
at first by Walker. Hits 1, runs
2.
In the third Alabama’s lads
again got guy, us follows: with
two down Jones reached first on
Hodgson’s error of a drive, lie
swiped second and darted for
third, came on home when Brown
threw to left field. Hits 0, runs
1.
Georgia also tried her hand ut
scoring in this inning. Derrick
was hit by the pitcher. Brown
then hit to pitcher and while he
stood with bull in band saying
over the old “Eenie meenie” etc
to decide which base to throw to,
both runners were safe. They
both made a forced march erect
ing their tepees on second and
third on u wild pitch. McWhor
ter flew out to right while Der
rick flew in home and scored.
Another hit batter und a base on
balls filled the bases, but that
was all weeured for ut tliut stuge
of the game, thank you. Hits 0,
runs 1.
Alabama was real mean und
got back at us in the next spasm.
Harris reaeded first when his
grounder trickled through Der
rick’s legs (we forgive you Iler-
REVENGE IN SECOND I ALSO IN THE THIRD
Yesterday afternoon Georgia
exacted a most horrible revenge
from the Tuscaloosa lads, man
gling und mutilating them almost
beyond recognition.
Score If) to 2.
Fielder was in line form and
hud no trouble in holding the
visitors down. Seven of them
fanned and only four secured
dean hits. Krwin and Ginsberg
were buck in the gumc, ami the
playing was steady, sure and id'
the winning kind.
Sanders put up a pretty game
at first for tin* A lubamiuns. Har
ris was hurt in the* first inning
and had to leave the game.
Though Georgia had already
scored four times und no one was
out when the accident occurred,
it is partly responsible for the
phor showing of Aluhumu.
The Georgia hitters were right
therewith their sticks, securing
fourteen safe swats from Ala
bama’s stunt artists. McWhor
ter, Franklin, McDonald und
Derrick each hit safely three
times.
A fairly good crowd was out
und yelped themselves bourse
while the following scoring was
done:
This offeruoon Georgia again
completely outclassed Alabama,
putting the series to her credit.
Score J] to 1.
Like yesterday’s, this game
wos a walk-over, Alabama mak
ing tin 1 error’s und Georgia tbe
runs. Gray essayed to do the
box work for the visitors und
Wedford Brown made his debut
in the box foi Georgia. Our
new southpaw did exceedingly
well, giving up only three hits.
Gruy was easy money and retired
in the seventh in favor of Sun
ders, who pitched good hull.
McWhorter knocked the lirst.
bull thrown over the bunk in
center field for u homer. Gins-'
berg mude a beautiful one-hand
catch of t offt'y’s linn “ri**. he-
fourth. Watson again threw out
a mun at first on u hit to right
field.
