Georgia tl, Furman 7.
t>n Monday April 2!lrd the
Georgia team piled oil at Green
ville, S. G. anxious to relieve
their ear sickness and keep their
hand in l>y walloping somebody.
Furman was hard by inhabiting
this town and so a set-to im
mediately resulted.
It seems that Furman was also
thirsting for blood. Georgia hud
beaten them the year before and
revenge was their desire. Hear
ing there would be a mix-up the
populace assembled from all
directions to observe it, and
I.undford, he of the speedy slants
who outpitched Lalitte of Tech,
was in the box.
To oppose him Georgia sent
Morton Hodgson to the slub for
his initiul try out in this posi
tion. He pitched u good game
and, while not making a strike
out record, kept the run-getting
down, which is the whole show
in these days when runs are the
side ingredients of the victory
recipe. I.undford showed terrific
speed but was hit hard enough
in clusters to cinch the game.
Georgia was desirous of mak
ing it clear at the outset that her
intentions were serious, and to
avoid a misunderstanding she
scored twice in the first and three
times in the fourth—all before
Furman had scored at all. The
Carolinians then conceived a
sudden desire for the game them
selves, and evinced this craving
by various and sundry tallies
interspersed throughout the clos
ing chapters, but to no avail—
Georgia refused to be ousted
from the lead.
Ike Fleischman won fame by
losing the ball for three bases.
Morton Hodgson fielded his posi
tion in big league style. During
the course of festivities captain
Sullivan injured his knee very
severely by diving about ten feet
through the air for a hard hit
drive through centre.

Georgia 7, Georgetown 1.
On Tuesday, April 24th, Geor
gia put Georgetown completely
to the Imd on their own tield, in
Washington, playing great rings
around them in every depart
ment of the game. Georgetown
entered the contest confident of
defeating us, but never had the
slightest chance of winning at
any stage of the game. For nine
long innings they were complete
ly helpless while our fellows ad
ministered to them the bitterest
drubbing of many moons.
Tis said the folks at George
town are still whispering the
name of Sullivan in a dazed and
awe struck manner. “King
Arthur” struck out the first two
men up and from then on held
the heavy hitters so utterly at
his mercy thut long ere the per
formance was over the very
fiercest were so tame that they
would eat out of his hand. They
only reached him four times and
not cleanly at all until the
eighth. He struck out eleven
men and, barring the four hits,
Georgetown succeeded in knock
ing only one hall out of the
diamond during the game. In
commenting on his work the
Washington Star hands him this,
“To say that Teddy is a pitcher
of the type that makes good in
any company is not more than
just praise for his ability. As
inning after inning wore on Sul
livan certainly pitched hig league
ball.”
And what our fellows were do
ing all this time to one Mr.
Montgomery, the p r i d e of
Georgetown, was a good anil suf-
ficent plenty. Just as though he
were a substitute pitcher on a
scrub team they hit him almost
at will, driving the ball to every
corner of the lot. Only brilliant
fielding by some of Ins pals saved
him from a worst defeat. He
was bit safely twelve times for a
grand total of nineteen bases.

Amid the Mingled Fuss of Hits and

Gets the Gag on Us
George Washington 12, Geor
gia 11.
In an intensely exciting game
on Wednesday George Washing
ton University got the best of us
on their grounds, hut only after
a most hair-raising finish in the
ninth was this accomplished.
If ever an audience at a hall
game got their money’s worth of
thrills and excitement this one
did. Four pitchers were used
and during the nine inning
thirty-one hits were secured oil'
of them. First one team would
secure a good lead and then the
other.
McWhorter started out to
pitch, but was wild and not. in
form, and Hodgson took bis pluce
ill the second. Kid Walker and
Ked Hodgson both got in the
game, and Brown distinguished
himself by a beautiful catch in
the ninth.
George Washington jumped in
the game at the sound of the
whistle and began scoring im
mediately. A base on balls, two
singles and three errors netted
them three runs in the initial
round.
In the next u hit, an error, and
two bases on halls gave Georgia
a run.
In the tiftli Georgia over haul
ed her Hying adversary and was
leading by a lap when she re
tired. An error, three singles
and a batter bit by the pitcher
did tin? business by registering
three tallies.
George Washington then came
in an evened up matters by scor
ing on two bits and a sacrifice.
Willi the score tied and two
down in the sixth Georgia threw
off her rival and caused conster
nation by rushing ahead with a
clean lead of six points. Two
errors, a w ild pitch, four singles
and two triples were used in ex
ecuting this inanouver.
During the course of the
seventh and eighth the Hatchet-
ites secured six hits, a base on
halls and a passed ball which

But Georgia Plays the Game All
Right. Our Lads Lose Gal

a Gallant Fight
Georgia spent the lust two
days of her road trip in Oliar-
lottesville as the guests of the
University of Virginia. Sullivan
hud a very Imd knee which was
causing him intense puin hut
pitched both gullies, lie pitched
creditable hull hut received poor
support, Georgia piling up ten
errors in two guuies. Susong and
Moore were the opposing slub-
men.
Susong who pitched the lirst
game was in great form und puz
zled its considerably. Siillivun

hut wus not supported. Susong
gave up only five hits, of which
Morton Hodgson secured tw ,
Watson two, and FUiiscbmau
one. The umpire’s weakness
was very costly for its.
The second game was much
more exciting and only sen
sational lidding by thn Virgin
ians kept us from leading. 'The
features for Georgiu were the
pluying of McDonald ut lirst and
the fielding of Sullivan. Derrick
flattened one uguiiist the left
field fence for three buses, bring

Virginia bus the best team

year and certainly delivered the
goods. They have beaten most
of the Northern teams, they have

teams us Vale. The Virginia
team played fast und clean hull,

fuiruess und hospitality of the
Virginia crowd was sadly luck
