GEORGIA-EMORY-TECH MEET
l>itl we win the triangular
we win
meet in Atlanta lust week?
This is still an open question
and everyom^is waiting anyions-
ly to learn whether or not Geor
gia has really won for the third
time the heuutiful trophy cup
she won last year and the year
before. If the decision comes
our way, then the cup is here us
u lasting tribute to the efforts of
Georgia men to tiring home
honor and glory to their loved
Alma Mater.
Hut a decision has not heen
reached yet, and all we can do
now is to hope, and tigure on
what might urn! what ought to
have been.
In tlu* first place, if the crowd
bad not stopped our runners after
three men were thought to have
crossed the line, we would have
taken a third place in the mile
run and thereby gained the few
points necessary. The S.I.A.A.
authorities should of course give
this fact due weight in their con
sideration of the question.
When we reflect upon the fact
that the time for the 100 yard
dash was 11 seconds, we cannot
help regretting that Kyle Smith,
and two others of our l>est track
men were unahle to take part in
the meet, for all three of them
run that distance under 11 sec
onds. And thereby hangs the
tale.
Smith, who sun three tirst
places on tield day, was unalde to
town by the faculty on account
of unsatisfactory class work.
This decision was regretted by
the student body, and it is strange
that these men were not allowed
to go to Atlunta Tuesday, hut
were given permission to leave
for Clemson on Friday. However
we do not know the inside facts
of the case, and could doubtless
see the consistency of the thing
were all the points before us.
As to the criticism that has
been indulged in in regard to the
principle of keeping men at home
who are behind in class work, it
is our opinion that this is the
only right tiling to do in such
eases.
Athletics are justifiable only
so long as they are coordinated
with class work. The team which
wins games only because it has
put all of its mental and physical
energy into its preparatory (ruin
ing is a palpable cheat; for col
lege athletics are for the sole
purpose of recreation from the
more serious work of college, and
any view other than this is an
open endorsement of profession
alism in college circles.
The argument was heard from
intelligent men that the faculty
should have permitted the men
to go just this time because o
the importance of the meet. It
is true that we were anxious to
win, and that the successful com
pletion of three years of hard
work hung in the balance, hut
still the principle remains un
changed.
To he honest at all, we must
he just us honest when the
temptation is great us when it is
trifling.
The track team reports a very
cordial and hospitable reception
on the part of Clemson.
Clemson has always treated us
in a very kind and sportinaulike
manner, and when we must meet
defeat, there is no foe more pre
ferable as victors than the
“Clemson Tigers.”
Clemson seems to have some
genuine appreciation and
reinemberance of the past.
The action of the faculty in
allowing the whole student body
to at rend the Tech game is highly
appreciated by each and every
member of the student body.
The relations untl attitude of the
faculty towards our athletics this
year have heen very harmonious
and pieusing to all concerned.
It seems to he a case of all work
ing together, and when this state
of affairs is brought, about the
chance of success and strength of
the team is always increased. It
is up to us to show our apprecia
tion of this harmonious state of
affairs, and even bring closer
still, the faculty and students in
this mutter hv doing our duty
and showing that we are willing
to hold up our side of affairs.

Those sages and gallant defend

again “hutted” into our fun on
last Saturday, hut were doubtless
called down by the action of
Mayor Dorsey.
The Sphynx iunitiution on last
Saturday was perhaps above the
usual standard in entertainment.
Those gallant knights of public

and cheered the brave deed of
their brothers. ‘Tis a brave hand
indeed, those Athens cops. The
bravery they display when a half
dozen or so of them break into
our fun, and with waving billies
and brandishing steel proclaim
that the strong hand of the law
objects, will he worth of mention
in the brave deeds of Knight
hood even unto the time when
Guhriel shall blow his horn.
On the other hand, when it
comes to students, they have
about as much conception of
w rong doing as a lobster has of
mountain climbing. All in the
world it takes to make a crime,
before their eyes, is a crowd of
students and a little noise.
