With this game apparently
wrnppetl up anti r«*t»tl\ for de

Cumberland gave us a great
scare ami came near spoiling the
whole thing in the eighth.
In the second McDonald hit
through tirst base, Derrick beat

lie scored tin a wild pitch, lit
1 the fourth John Brown popped
up u high one in the neighbor

ami Stuart and Handy formed a
circle anil let it full in the middle
for a hit. llodgson sacrificed
him to second, and he scored
when Handy errored Wedford
Brown’s g r o u n d e r . Krwin
reached tirst in the seventh on
Stuart’s error, was sacrificed to
second by Watson, went to third
on Franklin’s hit and scored on
McDonald's out to left Held.
Cumberland rendered all of
this scoring as naught in the
i Eighth by scoring three times
herself, but it was with the kind
assistance of the Georgia players.
Four errors a hit and a trnse on
balls starred in the performance
McWhorter won the game in
ninth.! lie hit safe to left, went
to second when Krwin was safe
on Gill’s error, stole third. Wat
son fanned with Krwin on tirst
but ran anyway and Carlisle
gave us the game by throwing to
tirst ami allowing McWhorter to singled,
score.

Cumberland’s habit of scoring
in the eighth was more in evi
dence than ever in this game.
This time she scored so much
that we couldn’t overcome the
lead.
Watson pitched for the visitors.
He showed a lack of proper
coaching, ami his delivery was
awkward, but the best our fel
lows could do w ith him at critical
moments was a pop fly or an easy
grounder. He was by all odds
the best of the visiting stall'.
Georgia scored once in the
second, aguia in the tifth. The
folks were just, ri-ady to leave
contented with a '2to 1 victory
when tho -Fed a-lad athletes sur
prised .every one including
themselveS-T by getting such a
start in the" eighth that they
couldn’t be-stopped until they
had scored live runs and won the
game. ' Here's the way it. hap
pened.
In the second McDonald reach
ed first on Handy’s error,to third
and scored on McWhorter’s Hit.
Three errors, a passed hall and
three Hits gave Cumberland live
runs and the game in the eighth.
