ATLANTANS UNABLE
TO RECOVER
Invaders Surprised by Quick
Start ami Fail to Rally.
With each and every player a star
and playing with a machine like pre
cision, the Bulldogs conquered the
Atlanta Athletic Club here last Sat
urday night, in one of the greatest
■‘comebacks” that lias ever been
staged on a basketball court The
final count was It to 18.
The Bulldogs started tlie game
with a rush that let the Club have the
hall very little and when they did
get it, it was only to lose it again by
a block by Bennett or by the fast
dribbling of Welhrs.
Giirr and IticliardNon Star
Ed Gurr and Nolan Richardson
shot goals from every angle. It
seemed they couldn't miss. Poky
Williams played a hard, fast game
and fe<l the hall to Gurr with won
derful accuracy. Bennett and
Welhrs displayed some of the best
guarding ever seen on a local court.
In other words they all played with
swiftness and teamwork exceptional
to any team.

Freshmen Bow Before
| Q. M. A. Team
Saturday
The young cadets from Georgia |
1 Military Academy proved themselves j
more than a match for the Georgia
Rats, here last Saturday night and
took their measure by the count of
20 to 17.
The Cadets started faster and more
accurately than had been predicted
and due to their early start were en
abled to continue their lead through
out the game, eycept for a short
time in the second half, then G. M.
A. rallied, and when the whistle
blew it found them the victors.
Hearn was the outstanding star for
the Cadets and his length as well as
his accuracy played a large part in
the victory of his team.
The game was rather a surprise,
although G. M. A. had been heralded
as a strong team it was thought that
the freshmen would come out on top.
But surprises WILL happen and
thereby hangs the tale.

FRESHMEN TO TACKLE
A. R, C., WHILE ELDERS
ARE FIGHTING MERCER
Although suffering at the hands of
G. M. A. last week the Freshmen are
still in a fighting mood and are mov
ing on to Augusta to do battle Sat
urday with the Richmond Academy.
The Freshmen have already de
feated Richmond Academy by a wide
margin. This was in Athens, go A.
R. C. will now have a shot at them
from their own frontier.
Richmond claims that although
defeated by the Rats, they are no
less confident of a win Saturday,
I thereby evening up the tally. Rich
mond has been through hard prac
tice since their lust game and bid
fair to put up a much better showing
than before.
The Rats have worked hard all
this week and claim that the score
will he prominent by a still wider
margin than in the last affair.
GEORGIA WELCOMES
HIGH CHOOL VISITORS
I
' All students of the University who
are graduates of the schools which
are represented in the tournament
should make arrangements to attend
as many of the games as possible and
support the ”old home town team.”
Each of the schools are sending two
full teams together with the coaches
and officials. In addition to these
there will be a representation of fans
to hack each team. This means that
there will be between three and four
hundred high school people in our
midst. We must aid the "V" in the
entertainment of these visitors, and
make them have a good time during
their stay in Athens.
Freshies Rise Above
Visiting Rats Wed.
The fast aggregation of basketeers
from Clemson's freshman class in
vaded Athens last Wednesday in
search of the Bulldog laurels, but
were turned back by Coach Thomas’s
squad of deadly Rats. The final
score was 25 to 16.
The Clemson Rats played a steady,
hard game the entire time but were
unable to find the basket at the op
portune moments, due mainly to
close guarding by the freshmen.
The freshmen were in good form
but could have well improved on
their accuracy in shooting. How
ever, they won and that's that.

Mercer Team in Good Shape to
Offer Serious Opposition.
The Georgia Bulldogs will set sail
for Macon today and will in all prob
ability return victors of two games.
However, Mercer has a view on this
subject and is promising the Bulldogs
one of the hardest scraps of the sea
son.
Having won with an astonishing
score from A. A. C., the Bulldogs are
confident and firmly believe that
Mercer won’t prove as much of an
obstacle as they did last year.
laisl Game Before Tourney.
It was announced Wednesday that
Larry Conover, former coach at the
University, would referee the North
east Georgia Basketball Tournament
which begins here next week. At
present, Conover is on duty as a life
guard at Atlantic City and he is
being brought to Athens for the
special purpose of handling the whis
tle during the coming tourney.
During his two years as assistant
coach of athletics at the University.
Larry Conover made a host of
friends who are looking forward to
seeing him again when he returns to
Athens in a different capacity. It
was Conover who was responsible
for Georgia's wonder freshman bas
ketball team in 1923. He is well-
known and popular in Athens as well
as in the University.
Conover handled both the tourna
ments of the last two years and noth
ing but praise could be heard for his
work. He is a devout student of the
game, having won his letter In this
sport, in addition to three other
sports, at Penn State.

This is the last game the Bulldogs
play before entering the tournament
in Atlanta. So they are determined,
that after winning as they have
throughout the season they'll lose
none of their glory to the Maconties.
Joe Bennett is showing himself
in these two games for the last time.
All he has to do is to play like he
did against A. A. C. last Saturday.
Expect l«ii'ge Crowds.
The games with Mercer have
always proved to be a great attrac
tion to the sport followers in the
state; so Macon is counting on one
of the biggest crowds ever. Not
only is the fact that these two in
stitutions are great rivals attracting
much attention but the fact that
Georgia's reputation has travelled
far and wide, as the best team in
the South is a matter which will
make many go to these games, that
have never before seen the sphere
roll through the hoop.
Many of the Georgia students are
planning a trip to the Central City
to see the last game. Those who re
member those of last year need no
coaxing to go.
The line-up for Georgia will be.
that same steady five who proved to
A. A. C. what's what.
