MUNDAY CLAIMS GUNN
DOUBLE-CROSSED HIM
New Developments Arise in Trial
of Louise Case Before Large
Crowd of Students.
An enormous audience crowded the
forum on Saturday when the cele
brated legal embroglio between I.
Gattling Gunn and W. C. Munday,
Jr., the Buckhead Romeo, continued
its avalanche of startling revelations
as to the extra mural interests and
activities of some of the student
body.
The journalistic ball player dra
matically stated that the suit which
charges him with alienating the af
fections of sweet Louise, a prominent
Mitchell’s Bridge debutante of sea
son before last and later the alleged
devoted wife of I. Gattling Gunn,
watchman extraordinary, from said
firearm cognomen spouse is a frame-
up and a perfidious scheme to injure
him in the envied position and rep
utation he has attained as a right
eous, pure, upright, and virtuous in
nocent. With a voice choked with
deep emotion Willie bared to the
jury his former innocuous life under
the maternal wing of a sweet mother,
how he was beguiled into an expedi
tion to Madame Louise by a certain
handsome, treacherous, blond young
man, who betrayed him and became
the star witness against him, and
how in serene innocence and expec
tation he had joined this fellow
Adonis in penetrating the wilds of
Louiseville, and how he returned to
the Boulevard at a slightly acceler
ated rate of speed, sans fruit, sans
fellow Adonis, sans U-Drive It, sans
part of his clothing, in fact, sans
about everything he had before. Bill
concluded his heart-rending narra
tive by saying that he had been the
fish, Gunn and the false blond, the
fisherman, and Louise, the bait; that
he had swallowed the whole business
and had suffered from ethical indi
gestion ever since.
IiOuise Doubtful Character.
The defense consisted further of
evidence as to the popularity and
desirability of Louise as a hostess
to collegians, and her husband’s dil
igence and expert marksmanship as
a protector of his home and wife,
especially at night.

ECONOMICS SOCIETY
Lawton and Langston Are Select
ed in Try-out; Both Known as
Experienced Speakers.
The annual Agricultural Club Eco
nomics Society debate will be held
on March 11, 1924, in the University
Chapel. The subject is: “Recolved,
That the French were justified in
occupying the Ruhr Valley.” The
Economics Society will debate the
negative side of the question.
A try-out was held at the last reg
ular meeting of the Economics So
ciety on February 12. and Shelby
Langston and Edward Lawton were
chosen to represent the society. The
men to debate for the Agricultural
Club have not yet been chosen.
The time for each speech will be
thirteen minutes and five minutes for
rebuttal. This debate will be of more
than usual interest to the members
of both clubs, because, hitherto, all
debates between the two clubs have
been won by the Economics Society.
Mr. Heckman is now working on
arrangements for a debate with Ken
tucky for the Economics Society in
the near future.
AG. GLOB SETTLES
SOPO TRY-OIIT
The Ag. Club had one of the best
meetings of the year last Friday
night. The president, Mr. F‘. M. Gor-
fain, gave a report on the debates
that are to be held this year. The
first debate will he the Champion
Debate between the Ag. Club and the
Economics Society, o be held March
11. in the University Chapel. The
rest of the debating program has not
been definitely decided, but the Ag.
Club will debate the University of
Florida and Auburn during the
spring term. All the indications
point to plenty of competition for
these try-outs. The question to be
debated between the Ag. Club and
Economics Society is: “Resolved,
That France is justifiable in her oc
cupation of the Ruhr Valley." The
Ag. Club will champion the affirm
ative side of the question.
The try-out for the Sophomore
Debate was held last Friday in the
Ag. College Auditorium. The sub
ject was: "Resolved, That the Unit
ed States should subsidize a mer-
j chant marine between the seaboard
ports and South America." Messrs.
J. H. Wright and H. A. McKoy were
the successful candidates on the neg
ative and Messrs. A. H. Chambers
and Hubert Owens for the affirma
tive. All of these men have already
made speaking honors during their
Sophomore year. We ail know the
calibre of debating that all are ca
pable of doing and the writer pre
dicts plenty of opposition from both
sides.
\\ ith Hickey Freeman These Are
Only Members of Commercial
Honorary Fraternity.
On last Friday. February 15, 1924,
the Alpha Chapter of Georgia of Beta
Gamma Sigma elected Mr. Edward
P. Lawton, Jr., of Savannah, and
Mr. Maxfieid Lund, of Athens, to
membership. Mr. J. H. Freeman is
the third member of the Senior Class
who holds membership in this, the
honorary society of the School of
Commerce. Membership is limited
to one-tenth of the graduating class,
which numbers thirty this year ex
cluding women. Mr. Freeman was
elected last year as a Junior, being
the only member ever elected in this
chapter while a Junior. However,
it is understood that one-fifteenth of
the Junior Class is elegible during
the third term of their Junior year.
Mr. Lawton and Mr. Lund led their
class in grades, having weighted
averages of about 93 and 91, re
spectively, in the courses counting on
their degrees. Individuals of the
upper one-fifth of the Senior Class
are eligible, and of that upper one-
fifth two votes debar from member
ship anyone in the upper half, while
one vote debars anyone in the lower
half. Only active members, student
and faculty, vote and the prospects
are voted on in the order of their
rank in the class. For several years
no student voted on lias had a vote
cast against him.
POLITICS TIES UP VOTING
FOd PRESIDERT PRE-MEDS
The Alpha Omega Society has been
organized for over two years and is
now serving the pre-med. students
in a splendid way. Only recently the
society has successfully petitioned
the faculty to give to each student
on completing the pre-med. course a
certificate to that effect. "Shrimp”
Wilson has been serving the society
as president this year. “Shrimp's"
successor is to be chosen at the next
meeting of the society which is to be
held next Tuesday night, February
26, in LeConte hall. The election
was attempted at the last meeting
but due to the presence of a new
member "politics" no decision was
arrived at.
Twelve-year-old William showed
up at home in a rather badly bat
tered condition. “Oh, William." his
mother cried, "you've been fighting
with that Jones boy again."
"How’d you know, Ma?” William
j inquired calmly, "Did they call in his
i relatives?"—Medley.
