Club Selects
New Members
Twenty-four students were select
ed at the annual try-outs of the
Women’s Glee club of the University
of Georgia which were held In the
chapel Wednesday night.

Because of a suggestion from
Hugh Hodgson, Atlanta, the old
members of the club were required
this year to try-out with the new
contestants, the selection of both de
pending entirely upon ability.. Due
to the inability of a number of the
old members to attend this try-out,
a second hearing will be held for
them soon.
Though plans have not been defin
itely arranged, the club expects to
^give its first performance in Febru
ary.
Miss Mary Vic Maulk of the music
department of Lucy Cobb institute
and director of the Women’s Glee
club, was judge of the contestants.
The club meeting which was set
for December 13 has been postponed
but the president announces that an
officer’s meeting will be held at that
time.

Daniel X. Cupid has added another
name to his long list of victims.
The latest victim is Mr. Broadus B.
McAfee, a senior in the University
of Georgia school of commerce. Mr.
McAfee is to be married on Christ
mas day to Miss Wilma Matthews
at the home of the bride's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Matthews, of La-
Grange, Ga.
Mr. McAfee is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. T. H. McAfee, of Aragon, Ga.
He has won many honors during his
career at the University. Mr. McAfee
is a member of Delta Sigma Pi, nat
ional commercial fraternity, is presi
dent of the Economics society, a
member of the Gridiron club, Scab
bard and Blade, Blue Key council,
and one of the business managers of
the 1928 Pandora.
Miss Matthews graduated from the
Georgia State Teachers college with
high honors, and has a host of
friends throughout the state. She

Art exhibition of more than 50 en
tries! has been a notable success,
states Miss Annie Carlton, Memorial
hall librarian and advisor of the
Bohemian club which is sponsoring
the exhibition.
As many as six different kinds of
work are entered in this exhibition:
namely, oil paintings, pencil sketches,
crayon sketches, water colors, pen
sketches, and charcoal sketches.

ably will be held during the spring
term, according to Miss Carlton.
This is the second art exhibition
which the Bohemian' club has spon
sored, both of which have evoked
considerable interest and favorable
comment in the University and
throughout the state.

was a member of several clubs and
was on the staff of the college annual.
Mr. McAfee states that he will be
back in school after Christmas.
A formal banquet and initiation
was held by the Sigma Iota Chi fra
ternity at the Georgian hotel Wed
nesday night, at which time the fall
pledges were admitted to member
ship. officials of the fraternity an
nounce. A formal dance is being
planned by the organization for an
early date. Membership is limited
to men who measure six feet In their
sock feet.
Alpha chapter of the fraternity
was established at the University
during the past spring by a number
of students and faculty members. A
second chapter has been established
at Vanderbilt, and preparations for
the installation of organizations at
Georgia Tech and the University of
Florida are under way. The frater
nity is really a revival of an older
one which was discontinued several
years ago.
Among the new men initiated
were “Fat” Taylor, who has the rec
ord of being the biggest man at the
University, and Sumter McCoy, who
holds the height record for the vicin
ity.

The attraction was Emil Jannings,
who made such a wonderful hit in
“Faust,” and Belle Bennett in “The
Way of All Flesh.”

sion.

“The Old Soak,” by Don Marquis,
will be presented in Atlanta at the
Atlanta Woman’s club auditorium at
8:45, Friday night, December 2, by
the Thalian dramatic club of the
University of Georgia. The final
dress rehearsal was held in a private
showing at the Georgia State Teach
ers’ College Thursday night, Decem
ber 1. Critics pronounced the work
of the actors to be excellent, show
ing good coaching by Miss MaNita
Bullock, Athens, director

A large number of alumni are ex
pecting to go from the alumni ban
quet at the Atlanta Biltmore hotel,
which is to be adjourned in time for
the performance, to the Thalian pre
sentation, according to Robert L.
Patterson, Athens, business manager.
The Thalians will present a short
skit at the banquet as a part of the
program.
Besides the cast and director, the
business manager and his assistant
are making the trip to Atlanta.
