Mm IN 52-0
Tin- Georgia Btilldogs scored their
thirty-fourth victory over the Mer
cer Beam Saturday, winning 52 to 0.
TIiIh wuh one of the worst defeats
ever handed the team from Macon.
Georgia allowed signs of having a
wonderful offense, the first team
scoring 39 points In less than thirty
minutes, but the Mercer opposition
was so weak that it Is impossible to
estimate the reul strength of the
Georgia team. However, tlie whole
team, or rather teams, played w r ell
and is was encouraging to see the
Bulldog liacks scampering up nnd
down the Held for touchdown after
touchdown.
Coach Mehre used extraordinary
strategy in starting off his second
team but they justified his confi
dence in them nnd Ilothstein pushed!

team played and the whole perform
ance of this crew gave proof of the
fact that Georgia will have n strong
reserve force.
The first team went In enrly in
the second quarter nnd after Hooks
got twenty yards through the line
on the first play the Mercer team
couldn’t stop the onslaughts of the
Bulldogs. McCrary scored twenty-
four points during the time he
played and Bobby Hooks also put
over a marker after a nice run of
thirty-five yurds.
Reserves were started in during
the last part of the game and the
score continued to mount up. Har

downs and Armln Waugh, last year
freshman, showed beautiful form In
his broken field running. John
Davidson nlso showed up well.
The much discussed end problem
seems to have been solved for Mnf-
fet and Red Smith played a good
gume of football and Maffet for his
first game on the varsity looked like
n veteran. Brudley nnd Henry
Palmer showed up well on the ends
nnd they were in on the Mercer
backs before they got stnrted. The
ends did all that could be asked on
the defense and after a little more
experience Red Smith and Maffet will!
lie able to bring their offensive work
up on par with their defensive play.
Harvey Hill got off some good
kicks but Georgia had to kick so;
few times that it Is hard to tell Just
how well they will be able to do.
This is one feature of the game that
may give Georgia some trouble, kick- j
Ing. Harvey Hill does well and so
does Hooks, Johnson, and Davidson.
but they can’t kick as far as Shiver
and Kstes nnd in a close gnme punt
ing can be the margin between a
win nnd a loss.
The loss of forty yards on penal
ties In the first half was too much.
It is only against a team such as Mer
cer had that a team can afford to
lose that distance, but the Bulldogs
wete more careful in the last quar
ter so perhaps the future games will
be as devoid of penalties as the sec
ond hall Saturday.
The game against Mercer showed
Georgia to have a good offensive but
It will be Impossible to test their de
fensive strength until a stronger
tram is played.

McCRARY, Fullback
llerdis McCrary, Georgia’s blasting
Hoosier fullback, earned a good start
toward a season’s scoring record
when he pounded Mercer’s line for
four touchdowns and one point after
touchdown for a total of 25 points.
McCrary was the only Bulldog to
score more than one touchdown
against the Bears, the other four be
ing evenly divided between Harvey
Hill, Armln Waugh, Benny Roth
stein, and Bobby Hooks.

DANCE TO BE GIVEN FOR
BULLDOGS IN NEW YORK
The University of Georgia football
team will be given a dance by Coach
Mehan’s N. Y. U. team at the Ritz-
Carlton the night that the Bulldog
warriors arrive in New York from
New Haven.
Coach Mehre received the invita
tion by telegram Tuesday. New
York girls will be present to be part
ners of the Georgia team at the
dance.
GEORGIA TO MEET
FURMAN UDDERS
AFTER VALE GAME
Following the tilt with the Yale
team in New Haven tomorrow, the
Georgia Bulldogs return to Athens
for a setto with the Furman Purple
Hurricane, on Sanford field next Fri
day. The date of the game has
been changed to Friday to enable the
Kiwanians who will be holding the
state convention in Athens, to attend
the game, and also to allow as many
people as desire to see the famous
Notre Dame team in action against
Tech, without missing a Bulldog tus
sle. A limited number of tickets to
the Notre Dame game went on sale
at Costas' yesterday morning.
With the strain naturally preced
ing a Yale game over, there is apt
to be a let down in the Bulldog
ranks. Furman always puts out a
fighting team which occasionally up
sets larger foes, and which will be
out to take advantage of any let
down on the part of the Georgia
team. It will be remembered that
Furman did exactly that In the 1926
game, and went off with a 14-7 vic
tory over a team that could not get
going after the tension of the trip
north.
