GOLDEN TORNADO
CHAMPIONSHIP TO
DEPEND ON GAME

sweeping past defeats into oblivion.
Georgia has not been very formidable
taking the season as a whole, and at
times they nave, perhaps, looked
pretty bad. but the Tech game is not
played until December 8, and it is
impossible for the game to be lost
before that time. However bad the
Georgia team may have looked at
different times this season and in
spite of the fact that Yale, Florida,
and L. S. U. have all achieved vic
tories over the Red and Black, Tech,
at this date, has not beaten Georgia.
Followers of the Georgia Bulldogs
should bear this fact in mind. No
matter how good Tech is, they have
not beaten Georgia and it is impos
sible for them to defeat Georgia be
fore December 8, and possibly not
then.
The conditions surrounding the
game are exactly the reverse of
1927. This time last year Georgia
had beaten Yale, Yale had beaten the
Army, and the Army had won the
World War and a victory over Notre
Dame, and Notre Dame had beat
Tech. This year Tech beat Notre
Dame, Notre Dame beat the same
Army that achieved victory in the
World War and won from them last
year. Army beat Yale, and Yale beat
Georgia. All of this proves exactly
not one thing but it does show the
entirely different aspect of 1927 and
1928.
On paper Tech is due to beat
Georgia but fortunately this game
is to be played on a field and al
though this field was something of a
disappointment to Georgia followers
last year, it may redeem itself.
Tech has a wonderful record but
'thinking of Bobby Hooks, Frank
Dudley, Glenn Lautzenhiser, Roy
Jacobson, Herdis McCrary, H. F.
Johnson, "Ikey” Boland, Gene Haley,
and Harvey Hill going up against
Tech playing their last game for
Georgia and with last year’s game
in mind, brings hope.
It is natural for the Tech game to
be uppermost in the minds of the
students and indeed all of the fol-

halfback, caught the pass and didn't
stop until Hooks hit him on the
Georgia six yard line. A big guard
was called out of the line to kick the
extra point and kick it he did with
the result the fatal thirteen points.
After this the Georgia team
worked hard to score but it was to
no avail. Passes were thrown,
hurled and pitched but the score re
mained the same. McCrary was in
there then and he ripped through
the Tiger line for big gains, but it
was too late for gains through the
line to help and the Red and Black
resorted to the air. There is noth
ing so futile in all football as passes
thrown in desperation and the passes
Saturday after L. S. U. got ahead
were desperate passes and accom
plished nothing. And so Georgia
took her second straight defeat and
third defeat of the seven games
played.
In Captain Tinsley the Tigers pre
sented one of the best tackles seen
this season and certainly one of the
best to appear on Sanford field in
lowers of both teams, but Georgia
supporters can remember however
gloomy the prospect, Tech has not
yet beat Georgia.
recent years. He gave the Georgia
offense a lot of trouble and it is due
to him that so little ground was
gained through the line.
Five of the seven men in Georgia’s
forward wall were second-string men
and they performed nobly. L. S. U.
was unable to gain much ground
through the line during the whole
game and the second-stringers as
well as the regulars who played in
the line deserve a world of credit for
their performance Saturday.
It was an extremely hard dose to
swallow, that one-point defeat Sat
urday and the fact that we made
more first downs than they did
doesn’t help any. It was just one
of those hard luck games that every
team runs across once in a while.

Glenn Lautzenhiser, who failed to
