Officers Installed
And Keys Given
To Ag Societies
Honor keys were awarded and
new officers installed at the annual
program for the public, held by the
Agricultural club of the Georgia
State College of Agriculture, last
Friday in Connor hall. Dr. Andrew
M. Soule, president of the college,
spoke on this occasion.
The following officers were in
stalled: president, G. B. Strong.
Newnan; vice-president, D. T. Smith,
Abbeville; secretary, S. L. Ervin,
Shellman; treasurer, W. It. Moseley,
Eastonollee; parliamentarian, J. J.

Short talks were given by several
of the outgong officers. Ag club
honor keys were given to H. T. Cav-
endar, Millwood; V. Y. Jones, H. A.
Edge. F. P. King, and G. B. Strong.
Veterinary keys were awarded
John Lyde, Benell, Ala.; F. S. Carr,
Donaldsonville; R. E. Whitcomb,
Reidville, Me.; W. D. Hiscock, Dix
ie; and J. H. McClung, Dawson.
The Saddle and Sirloin club pre
sented honor keys to C. E. Bell, Ath
ens; J. W. Collins, Flint; G. L.
Blackwell, Marietta; H. H. Dickens,
Elberton; and G. B. Strong, Newnan.
Debating medals were given C. J.
Bryant, Jasper, and J. P. Beamer,
Calhoun, as winners of the recent
debate against Homecon club.

Miss Weiser to Head
Sorority During 1931
Helen Weiser, Waycross, was
elected president of the local chap
ter of the Alpha Sigma Phi sorority
at the meeting held last Wednesday
night. Miss Weiser is a sophomore
at the university and a member of
the Women’s Student council.
Other officers elected were: Mis's
Rose Yaffe, Sparta, secretary; and
Miss Ida Mogul, Atlanta, treasurer.
House Mother Entertains
For Sophomore Girls
Mrs. Cora Garwood, house mother
of Sophomore house, entertained the
seniors of her dormitory Tuesday j
evening with a dinner at the Geor
gian hotel, followed by a picture
show party at the Palace theater.
The guests included Jenelle Cal
houn, Washington; Martha Galloway,
Waverly Hall; Martha Mobley, Jef
ferson; Mary Louise Martin, Flem-1
ington; LaVada Amoss, Augusta,:
and Ruth Clements, Augusta.

Lambert were hostesses at a tea
Sunday afternoon honoring Miss
Louise Upson, a former student of
the university, whose marriage to
Bradley Poor Foss will take place
in June. The tea was held at the
home of Mrs. Lambert on West View
Drive.
Katherine Bryan, Atlanta, attend
ed the Delta Sigma Delta dance at
Columbia Dental college In Atlanta
last week.
Miss Doris Simmons, Augusta,
was a guest at the Kappa Delta
house this week.
Miss Guinevere Asey of Chicago,
who has been a guest at the Phi Mu
house for the past three weeks, re- j
turned to her home Monday.
Mrs. John B. Hill of Atlanta was
a guest at the Alpha Gamma Delta
house last week.
Miss Frances Henson, a former
student of the University of Georgia
who is now attending the University
of Alabama, will be at the Kappa
Delta house Saturday.
Members of Chi Omega living in
the chapter house and members of
the Kappa Sigma fraternity gave a
steak fry at Beech Haven Tuesday
evening.
Miss Jane Richardson, of Augusta,
arrives Friday for a short visit at
the Phi Mu house.
Miss Ivy Hixson, Augusta, visited
her sister Vera at the Alpha Gamma
Delta house last week.
Helen Briscoe spent last week-end
with her parents in Monroe.
Mary Banks, Forsyth, will spend
this week-end at home.

Honor Seven Men
Seven seniors of the local chap
ter of the Sigma Chi fraternity were
honor guests Wednesday night at a
banquet given in Memorial hall by
the freshman class of the chapter.
It. R. Gunn, class of ’14, a local
business man, acted as toastmaster
and talks were given by several
alumni and members of the active
chapter.
The seniors of the chapter who
were honored are: Arinin Waugh,
Atlanta; Joseph I). Mitchell Jr., Way-
cross; Egan G. Skinner Jr., Atlanta;
George A. Miller Jr.. Birmingham,
Alabama; Miles A. Collier, Colbert;

The monthly free show will be
given university students at the
Strand next Wednesday. The attrac
tion is “Ex-Flame,” starring Nell
Hamilton and Marlon Nixon.

Before Graduates
“Fruitfulness of Philosophy” was
the subject of a commencement ad
dress before the graduating class of
Winterville High school by Dr. W.
11. Wrighton, associate professor of
philosophy at the university, early
this week.
“Philosophy meditates between re
ligion and science, and enables a
man to understand bis place in the
universe," Dr. Wrighton said.
"Philosophy is reflected thinking
The discipline of philosophy leads
to clear thinking.” Dr. Wrigton con
tinued. "It corrects both dogmatism
and skepticism, and brings us into
contact with some of the creative
thinkers of the world."

Mrs. Lloyd Raisy was hostess at a
bridge party of five tables at the

Mrs. M. H. Bryan won top score

will hold its annual Founders Day
banquet at the Georgian hotel Sat
urday evening, at which members,
pledges, alumni, and patronesses will
be present.

Professor Malcolm II. Bryan of the
school of commerce will deliver the
commencement address of Comer
High school in Comer next Monday.
Professor Bryan, in addition to his
teaching duties, is acting director of
the Institute of Public Affairs, whose
1931 session was held at the uni
versity this month.
