Sigma Nu Pledg es
Given Dinner Parly
Mu chapter of the Sigma Nu fra
ternity entertained their pledges at
a dinner party at their house Fri
day evening. Dinner was followed
by a small house dance.
Mr. and Mrs. Garnett L. Daniel
acted as chaperones, and the follow
ing guests were present: Misses
Dorothy Burns, Greenwood, S. C.;
Agnes Jarnagin, Athens; Eleanor
Glover, Gainesville; Jeanne Lyons,
Phillipine Islands; Udora Lemon,

Student Constructs
Radio on Campus
Albert S. Riley, Griffin, holder of
a United States license for short
wave radio transmission, is building
an amateur set In the Physics build
ing on the University of Georgia
campus.
Riley has had considerable experi
ence in the amateur Held, as well as
in commercial radio broadcasting.
He Is employed by Station WTFI
in Athens.
Formerly, Riley maintained his
unit at his home in Griffin, but after
application to the Federal Radio
Commission, he has been permitted
to change the location of his station
to the second floor of the Physics
building.
Eugene Booth, Woodstock, is as
sociated with Riley in the setting up
of his equipment.
Georgia Alumnus to Run
For Athens City Council
C. B. Chandler, alumnus of the
University of Georgia, and a resident
of Athens, has announced his can
didacy for the democratic nomina
tion to the city council.
Mr. Chandler was graduated from
the engineering school of the Uni
versity of Georgia, and afterwards
was connected with the railroads for
a number of years.

Present Depression
President Hoover is not responsi
ble for the present depression,
Demosthenian Literary society de
cided Wednesday evening at the reg
ular meeting.
Upholding the victorious negative
side of the question, “Resolved:
That President Hoover is Responsi
ble for the Present Depression,”
wee Claude Green, Clayton, and
Woodrow Green, Macon.
Plans were discussed for a meet
ing with the Pioneers at an early
date. A committee composed of W.
T. Thurman, Atlanta, chairman; Os
car Dillard, Arnoldsville, and Jack
Brennan, Savannah, was appointed
to confer with members of Pioneer.

Ferguson, house mother at the Phi
Mu house, had tea at Lucy Cobb
Sunday afternoon.
Emma Lester, Augusta, is a guest
at the Kappa Delta house this week
end.
Mrs. T. J. Kelly, who is connected
with the Georgia Power company,
was a guest for dinner at Barrow
hall Tuesday night.
Mu Beta of Chi Omega held
pledge service Thursday afternoon,
followed by a buffet supper for the
pledges at the house.
Caribel Finger, Gainesville, is in
Chapel Hill this week-end attending
the Georgia-North Carolina game.
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Pike, La-
Grange, were the guests of their
daughter, Natalyn, for dinner at the
Alpha Gamma Delta house Sunday.
Miss Jennie Smith, who for fifty
years has been the art teacher at
Lucy Cobb, returned from Atlanta
this week where she was the guest
of Mrs. W. D. Ellis. Miss Smith is
still staying at Lucy Cobb.
Elolse Settle is in Atlanta at her
home this week-end.
