"Physical facilities for plays at
the university have never been so
favorable," Mr. Crouse commented
Thursday. "Representing the Thn-
llan-Rlarkfriars, I should like to ex
press our deep gratitude for what
is being done for us nnd the hope
that our productions this year will
merit the confidence that university
authorities by their co-operation are
pluring In us.
"Athens audiences now may enjoy
student plays In comfort nnd among
pleasant surroundings. The whole
atmosphere of campus productions
will lie raised appreciably. Increas
ed patronage will result from these
measures to make the chapel com
fortable and attractive; and Increas
ed patronage naturally in turn will
mean liner plays at Georgia."
Historic Structure
The old chapel, erected in the
early '80s, is one of the historic
spots of Athens. It has seen gradu
ated from celebrated Lucy Cobh In
stitute many women who later
figured prominently in Georgia social
and literary history. The interior of
the building, unusual in plan and de
sign, has been widely commented
upon by architects uud decorators.
University authorities who are to
be credited with adapting the chapel
to needs of student dramatics at
Georgia include Chancellor Snelling
Dean S. V. Sanford. Mrs. Ellen P.
Rhodes, dean of women, and J. T.
Dudley, university purchasing agent.
