Announces Bidding
Of Four Freshmen
NINE SENIORS NAMED
TO GRIDIRON CLUB

Increased Activity in Stu
dent Affairs This Year
Increased activity this year In the
student affairs of Lumpkin Law
school wan promised In the program
begun by XI chapter, Sigma Delta
Kuppn, Intercollegiate law fraternity,
at a meeting Tuesday night.
Following this meeting, William
H. Dooner Jr., Savannah, chancel
lor, announced the pledging of Wll-
llum Morgan Thomas, Montezuma;
Fred A, Blrchmore, Athens; J. W.
McDonald, Fitzgerald; and Joseph
K. Telford, Cleveland.
New Policy
The early pledging of these stu
dents Is n departure from the policy
heretofore followed by XI chapter.
The success of their pledgoship Is
contingent upon their completing to
the chapter's satisfaction the first
semester’s work They will then be
subject to Initiation after the exam
inations In February.
Tills method of pledging was
adopted this year as un encourage
ment to the first year students to
produce high marks in their studies,
and at the same time let them know
that their colleagues are Interested
In their success A committee of

Hlnely, Guyton, was appointed to
conduct u short training course tor
the pledges.
Scholarship F.ncoiirngcd
In keeping with its fundamental
purpose of encouraging high scholar
ship. XI chapter at this meeting
created an award for the student at
tnlnlng the highest nveruge each
year among its members. This will
be a scholarship key to be donated
by a prominent alumnus or honor
ary member of the chapter. It will
tie the official scholarship key of
Sigma Delta Kappa, provided by the
grand chapter, and will he named
each year for the donor. While the
award has been created at this time.
It will not be presented until next
year.
This step Is the second recognition
for scholarship In Lumpkin Law-
school which has been made by XI
chapter. The first was an honor
scroll for all first year law students
which hangs In the corridor of the
building. For the year 1930-31,
the nume of Frederick Solomon,
Fort Valley, has been Inscribed us
being the highest honor student.
Duncan Graham, McKae, won this
distinction the previous year.
