Annual Poultry Show
The third annua! Georgia baby
chick and egg show gets undei way
in the poultry administration build
ing April 4 and will continue through
April 6. Entries in the show num
ber 750 chicks when The Red and
Black went to press. Frank E.
Mitchell, head of the poultry depart
ment, expects further entries before
the opening of the show. Only ten
entries in the egg competition have
been received so far.
It is hoped by officials of the show
that final judging of the entries will
be completed before the opening day.
Ribbons will be awarded to first,
second, and third places in each class
of entries. A silver trophy, donated
by the Georgia Baby Chick associa
tion will be awarded the highest
scoring entry. There will be eleven
classes represented in the chick
show, and two in the egg competi
tion.
Chick entries are in the follow
ing classes: White Leghorns, Rhode
Island Reds, Barred Plymouth Rocks,
White Plymouth Rocks, Orpingtons,
New Hampshire Reds, Miscellaneous,
Geese, Ducks, Guineas, Turkeys.
Eggs will fall in the white and
brown classes.
Prizes to be awarded to the win
ning entries will total one hundred
and sixty-five dollars. The show
will be open continuously from nine
o'clock in the morning until nine
o’clock in the evening. The general
public and the student body is in
vited to attend. There is no ad
mission charges.
Two radio programs will be given
in connection with the show over
station WTFI. The first will be Mon
day from 12 to 12:15, the other on
Wednesday from 10:15 to 10:30, both
in the morning. The programs will
include music and talks on how to
select chicks and eggs for the show.
Charles Smoak, secretary for the
show; • H. Cornwall, president of
the Poultry Science club, and Miss
Lucy Stokes, chairman of the decora
tion and reception committee, will
be heard on these programs.
The Athens Banner-Herald is
jont sponsor of the show with the
Poultry Science club, and the Geor
gia Baby Chick association.

Preliminary plans for the dances
were made at a meeting of the Pan-
Hellenic council Wednesday after
noon. The $5.50 rate was necessary,
Stafford said, to offset the contract
price for securing an orchestra of
the Jones calibre.
The series of dances will begin in
Woodruff hall Friday night at 9
o'clock and continue until 1. The
Saturday afternoon tea dance will
begin at 5 and end at 7. The con
cluding affair will take place Satur
day night from 9 until 12. Neither)
dance will be formal. The hall will j
be decorated under the direction of
Hubert B. Owens, associate profes
sor of landscape architecture, and
faculty adviser of the council. The j
theme of the decorations has not j
been announced.
The economy of purchasing tick
ets while they are on sale In Costa's
and Gunn's was emphasized by the |
council head, who announced that
single tickets will be considerable
higher at the gate.
The annual rotogravure section
of The Red and Black, an annual
feature of the Spring dances, will
appear with the paper April 12, Tom j
Dozier, editor of the campus week- j
ly, has indicated. Pictures of women
for the section should be turned In
to the office Immediately, accom
panied by 50 cents to cover the cost
of production. Such pictures may
be any size, but must be of a glossy
print.
Numerous house parties and other
social affairs have been planned by !
the various fraternities for the week- j
end festivities, with many out of J
town visitors expected for the dances. J
