Auburn Iteal Georgia ,lin\
Auburn has In the past several
seasons become a real Jinx to Geor
gia trnck tennis. Coached by Wil
bur Hutsell, assistant conch of tho
IT. S. Olympic team, they have beaten
the Bulldogs consistently; throo
times last year tho Bulldogs wero
turned back by the Plainsmen—In
the dual meet in Auburn, In the
Southeastern meet in New Orleans,
and In tho A. A. U. meet In Atlanta.
Snturday the proteges of Conch
Baskin, an alumnus of Auburn, are
"out for the blood” of tho Auburn
cindermen, and if the mile relny Is
Included in the events, they should
get revenge for their former defeats,
as the Bulldogs have one of the finest
relny outfits in the Conference. Tho
five points of the relay was more
than the margin of the Plainsmen’s
victories In any of the meets Inst
year.
Georgin meets two more confer
ence foes in dual meets after Au
burn: Tech in Atlanta and Florida
In Gainesville. The Southeastern
conference meet Is to he held in
Birmingham May 17-18.
Gordon Harman, University of
Wisconsin (Madison) 155-pound box
er, has lost only one tight in hln
career. He's fought In more than
65 bouts.

Georgia Military academy, College
Park, and Athens high.

This was tho second meet of the

Bulldog Nine Faces
Tigers in Clemson:
Series Divided Here
Johnson Pitches Georgia to
2 to 0 Win, Second Game
Lost on Errors
The Bulldog nine meets the Clem
son Tigers at Clemson Friday and
Saturday In the closing games of a
four-game series, after splitting with
the Tigers here last week in the first
two games.
After playing errorless ball in the
game last Friday behind the fine
pitching of Frank Johnson, the Bull
dogs took the first game 2 to 0, but
lost the second game 4 to 3 on cost
ly errors and bad Judgment.
Out of the three leading pitchers.
Coach Vernon Smith wili probably
divide the mound duty between
Julius Bishop and Lefty Nichols, and
will probably use Frank Johnson as
a relief hurler. Bishop was suffering
from an arm injury last week but
has recovered.
If the Bulldog fielding is airtight,
they are favored to take the series
on account of their hitting power in
Captain Cy Grant, Andy Anderson,
Jordan Ennis, and Alf Anderson, but
if costly errors in the infield reap
pear the outcome will be different.
Bill Croxton, the Clemson pitcher
in the first game last week, was taken
out with a sore arm after allowing
only one hit in seven innings, and
he will probably face the Bulldogs
this afternoon. Should he be right,
the Bulldog batters will have to be
In top form to get many hits.
Cy Grant led the Bulldog hitters
in the second game with two triples
and a single in four trips to the
plate, but a bad play cost his team
mates at least a tied score when he
was caught between third and home
on Carter’s grounder to third.

Netmen Make Trip
To Engage Emory
Georgia’s varsity tennis team en
gages in Its first out-of-town match
when they Journey to Atlanta to play
Emory Saturday.
Players making the trip will be
Captain Bud Lindsay, Frank Swift,
Aaron Cohn, Wade Hoyt, and Ed
mund Landau. This match will be
close but Georgia will probably win,
as Emory was defeated earlier in
the season by Davidson, a team that
the Bulldogs beat.
The match scheduled with Florida
for last Friday was rained out. The
team meets Mercer in Athens Mon
day, April 22.
The freshman team opens its sea
son Saturday against Tech high,
which has one of the best high
school teams in the South. The fresh
man team is Albert Jones, Ed South
erland, Plott Brice, and Dave Mor
rison. Other matches will be with
Boys' high April 27 here, and with
Tech and Emory freshmen May 17-
18 in Atlanta.
Georgia Golfers Will Meet
Augusta College Saturday
The Bulldog golfers encounter
Augusta Junior college in the fourth
meet of the season Saturday when
the Augustans come here to play on
the Athens Country club course.
Next Wednesday the team meets
the University of Richmond here.
This will be the last meet before the
team will be entered in the South
ern Open Intercollegiate tournament
here next Thursday. They have won
two and lost one meet so far this
season, having dropped a close con
test to the strong Duke Blue Devils.
The team played will probably be:
Intramural sports are moving
along quickly now with bowling en
tering the last week and softball in
the sixth round. The standings of
the organizations for the winter
quarter will be posted as soon as
bowling is completed.
Jack Frost, intramural director,
announced that there will be a vol
ley ball competition, a track meet,
and marksmanship competition in a
few weeks.
Two volley ball courts will be con
structed behind Woodruff hall and
competition in this sport will start
in about three weeks. The track
meet is set for May. Twelve teams
have entered the rifle shooting con
test and other teams wishing to’
enter should see Sergeant Holloman
at the military department. This
event will take place after the mil
itary inspection of April 23-26.
Softball games are slightly behind
schedule because of rain and post
ponements for other events. Results
of games played in the “X” club
league are as follows: Lambda Chi
Alpha beat Camp Wilkins 17 to 15;
Phi Delta Theta beat Pi Kappa Phi,
23 to 13; and Joe Brown beat Phi
Epsilon Pi two games.
In the Sanford league Alpha Ep
silon Pi bet Kappa Sigma, 17 to 12;
Pi Kappa Alpha defeated Sigma Nu,
11 to 2; Sigma Chi defeated Cand
ler hall once 14 to 10, and again 190
to 8.
In the Sanford league the PiKA’s
beat the Sigma Nus and they and
Sigma Chi’s seem to have the strong
est teams neither one having lost
a game. Phi Delta Theta with four
victories and one loss is one of the
stronger squads in the "X’’ club
league.
Wade Hoyt, Dean Covington, Mor
ton Campbell, Dan Sage, and Ros
ser Little. The Bulldogs are favored
to win.
