impromptu do ha tea designed to en
courage new members to express,
themselves on the floor.
Five topics of current enmpus in
terest were chosen for the three
minute talks in the first of a series
of progrntns intended to give eVery
member of the society who hasn't
spoken a chance to do so during the |
year.
Ten men participated in the de
bates. Albert Carry and Stokes Walk
er argued for and against women
cheer leaders at the University.
Don Wilder and Warren Glasgow
upheld the affirmative und negative
of tlie merits of having an honor
system at Qeorgia. Hamilton Ver-
dery and Earle Cocke debated the
udvisihility of having women in busi
ness.
Humor was brought out when War
ren Weston and Sidney Haskins
argued for und ugalnst the Univer
sity abolishing grades. The final
debate between Abe Kruger and Mor
ris Brody wus on the subject of the
merit of Georgiu embarking on a
program of big-time football.
Refreshments were served during
the open discussion after debate.
Howell Hollis led discussion on the
big-time football question during this
period.
Announcement was made that the
freshman prepared debate on the sub
ject: Should the University of Geor
gia embark on a progrgnm of hlg-
tlrne football, will be held at 4:30
Monduy in Phi Kappa Hull.
New Hand banned
By University Men
Due to the need for more than
one dunce orchestra on the eampuH,
a 10-piece organization culled the
"University of Georgia Clubmen"
haw been formed. Thi« orchestra,
organized with University approval,
has not been started to compete with
the University orchestra, but rather
to till the need for another bund to |
play for out-of-town engagements
und campus socials when the Uni
versity orchestra is already engaged.
The "Clubmen" are expected to
make their llrst public appearance
m the Club stunt Night pro
gram to be held on Nov. 17 in the
Physical Education Building. The
new orchestra will ulao play for a
dunce the week preceedlng Christ
mas holidays.

A total of ten points comprising at least one major and at least two minor
honors, and distributed In at least three different fields, is necessary for
eligibility for election.

Of ODK Aspirants
All men who geek membership in
Omicron Delta Kappa, national hon
orary fraternity, were requested to
day to submit their lists of activity
points to Robert Troutman, Atlan
ta, president, or Albert Jones, Atlan
ta, secretary-treasurer, on or before
Nov. 14.
Initiation foe neophytes will take
place during Tech week-end. Only
men with full junior standing who
have been resident students at the
University for at least a year are
eligible.
Election to the organization is
based on a numerical system with
points offered in varying degrees for
character, scholarship, and extra-cur
ricular activities. A total of ten
points, distributed in at least three
different fields, is necessary for eli
gibility.
Debaters Will Meet GSCW
In First Encounter of Year
Opening the forensic year at G.
S C. W., a team of two men and
two women will go to Milledgeville
Saturday to represent the University
in formal debate and open forum.
Phyllis Jenkins, Athens, and Mar
tha Whitaker, Athens, of the wo
men’s varsity, will uphold the af
firmative, while Bob Norman, Wash
ington, and Bill Gunter, Commerce,
of the men’s varsity, debate the nega
tive of the question, Resolved: That
the United States should follow a
policy of isolation toward all nations
engaged in international or civil con
flict.
Johnson Appointed
Coy Johnson, Athens, a senior In
the Henry W. Grady School of Jour
nalism, has been made society editor
of the Athens Times, succeeding
Mary Frances Crabb, who resigned
because of Illness.

Students Proving Positive
X-Rays lor students who were pos
itive in the tuberculin examinations
will be given during the last week of
November. Over 400 students have
already tested positive, records show
Dr. Loree Florence, in charge of
the tests, warns that students und
faculty members who have not taken
the test must do so immediately, as a
fee will he charged those wturdo not
have the test made. Tests are given
daily from 3 to 5:30 and on Satur
days from 9 to 1.
