Shortages (you must have heard)
don’t soem to have affected the fash
ion picture thin season, as far as
charm and being pleaslng-to-the-eye
go; and they go plenty far. In
genious designers have given up
their annual unties in costume Jew
elry, .which this year would have
been priority stuff, and have outdone
themselves in fancy hits of non-
prlorlty foolishments. These semi
precious Jools seem to he more plen-
tlous than over, In fact; wool dress
es feature wooden and felt figures;
and dark crepes pleasingly set off
simply gllttcrous new Elsonberg
clips, made this year In nll-you-wnnt
of-lt silver Very dressy; very good.
More lists
Hals are feathered and funnier
than ever, If that's conceivable. Our
line feathered friends have given
their all for fashion this season
Nell Brannon (Milieu) has one of
those flighty (oooch!) creations In a
delectable shade of blue that no bird
could ever liuvo been. She com
bines It with black crepe, black bag,
and long blue gloves that mutch to
the nth-est degree.
Mary Trussell (Athens and Suiting)
also took to the Idea with a hat tliul
has two little grey b'ub sittln' right
up there on It, rout,, > take to the
wind. Perhaps Mary has taken care
of tills problem with hatpins, as so
many have. (Iran'mn would shiver
to see some of the things her old hat
pins are anchoring now Yes, she’d
shiver, but with delight!!!
Itrown Felt
Hut the cutest hat that made its
appearance is positively a fake!
(lenu Haggard (Camilla and Shorter)
wore a many looped brown felt bow
smack on top behind her blonde
curls. To those who saw it. It wus
a Imt; to her, It was both smart and
comfortable, two terms seldom usso
elated with the same chapeau.
Colors this season? Ited still
holds Its high rank In favorites, both
for school and for week-end outfits.
To prove Its truo worth, we need
only to point to Peggy Smith and
Hcnnlo Stone (both from Htcphons)
Bennie’s brilliant red crepe Is cut In
the new peg-top skirt silhouette.
Peggy wears u dross of bright red
velveteen cleverly combined with
faille to make one of those froni-
thls-day-forward necessities.
Mary Oresham (Decatur) discov
ered a luce collar of her grandmoth
er’s, used It on a dark crepe—quite
denture and picturesque.
Kail Dresses
Another look-at-mc-lwlee outfit is
worn by I,arose Day of the soft
voice, the suh-sweet stnllo, and
Thomaston. It Is a two-piece sult-
llke dress of rabhit’s-halr wool. The
rusty brown shade of this unimmin-
sofl material is the one they re-name
every fall—always right.
Anybody would want to go to sen
when Mary Callaway (LnGrange and
Seminary) appears in her very au
thentic navy dress with (he planted
skirl and gold braid. The possibili
ties of the sailor's uniform weren't
realised until Mary slipped Into tilts
classic.
If the full social atfairs go over as
big as the rushees' social attire this
will lx 1 a truly wonderful season.
