Mort Kanipf, Newark, N. J., has
been elected secretary of Sigma Del
ta Chi, professional journalistic fra
ternity. He succeeds Curtis Driskell,
who is serving in the Marine Corps.
Kampf is a former sports editor of
The Red and Black and sports edi
tor of the Pandora.
Jones Elected
Bob Jones, Blairsville, was elected
Agronomy Club president Tuesday
night. Eugene Cotton, West Point,
was named vice president. Other of
ficers elected were Dorman Lott,
Metter, secretary; James Biles, Jack
son, parliamentarian; Syndor Owen,
Cedartows, reporter, and Tommy
Brannan, Woodbury, critic.
Ar Hill Holds Party
Sponsored by the Ag Club, a get-
acquainted party for Ag Hill fresh
men, was conducted last night. It
was the first such gathering on Ag
Hill, Dean Paul W. Chapman, Col
lege of Agriculture, said.
Phi Kappa Installs Officers
New officers of Phi Kappa Lite
rary Society were installed Wednes
day night. The officers are Bud Min
is, Athens, president; D. C. Ireland,
Athens, first vice president; Jim
Hickey, Atlanta, second vice presi
dent; David Handley, Charleston,
S. C., secretary-treasurer, and Lamar
Merk, Atlanta, chief justice.
Parker InauRurated
Hassell Parker, Ellijay, was in
stalled as president of Demosthenian
Literary Society Wednesday night.
Bob Westbrook, Ila, and Baker Mc
Gee, Athens, won an impromptu de
bate on “Resolved that the Demo
cratic Party Should Renominate
President Truman.”
Whitfield Elected
Roy Whitfield, Jasper, has been
elected president of Aghon, honorary
agricultural society. He succeeds
Raymond Martin, Moultrie. Other of
ficers include Gordon Woodard,
Milan, Tenn., vice president, and Bob
Jones, Blairsville, secretary-treasu
rer.
Attend Convention
Three members of the political
science department left Wednesday
to attend the 18th annual convention
of the Georgia Municipal Association
in Savannah. They are Dr. Merritt
B. Pound, department head, Willard
Range and M. W. H. Collins, assist
ant professors.
Harris Heads Ag Club
Lamar Harris has been elected
president of Ag Club. Other officers
include Donald Lee, vice president;
Charles Shackleton, treacurer; Wiley
Henson, reporter; Walter Leon-
pacher, parliamentarian; Bob Bla
lock, sergeant-at-arms, and Law
rence Harvey, critic.
Johnston Gets Post
Coy Johnston. Estill, S. C., was
named president of Forestry Club
Tuesday. Other officers include John
Swilley, El Dorado, Ark., vice presi
dent; Vernon Holt, College Park,
secretary; Burton Mlddlebrooks,
Sharon, treasurer; Hugh E. John
stone, Jr., Macon, reporter, and Wil
liam Thompson. Mt. Vernon, parlia
mentarian.
Portwood Elected
Boyce Portw-'od, Summit, has been
named business manager of the Pan
dora. He is a member of Blue Key,
Scabbard and Blade, treasurer of
Delta Sigma Pi, professional business
fraternity, vice president of Econom
ics Society, operations officer of Ar
nold Air Society, and a member of
Demosthenian Literary Society.
Wenzell Appointed
To Medical Position
Replacing Maxwell
Dr. Ralph A. Wenzell has replaced
Dr. Edgar J. Maxwell, Jr., as Uni
versity medical director after the
latter resigned his position Sept. X.
A graduate of the University of
North Dakota and Northwestern Uni
versity School of Medicine, Doctor
Wenzell was engaged in private
practice in Columbus prior to com
ing to the University.

ary, Doctor Wenzell outlined his pro
gram for this year “to endeavor to
keep all students as healthy as possi
ble.”
As a result of a Student Council
ruling last spring, students must re
port to the infirmary on the first
day of illness to be excused from
classes. Concerning this question,
Dr. Wenzell said he will be "glad
to give excuses—when the student is
really ill.”
Journalism Professor
Publishes Two Articles
John E. Talinadge, associate
professor of journalism, has
written two magazine articles
dealing with Negro problems.
“Emancipation of Rufus," will
appear this fail In the Prairie
Schooner, a quarterly publica
tion of the University of Nebras
ka.
“Old Clayton at th% Mourn
er’s Bench” is slated for publi
cation in the fall issue of the
Georgia Review, but may appear
in a subsequent issue.
