Music Appreciation Starts
24th Year Under Hodgson
By BiU Tribble
The “Music Appreciation Hour,” long a Thursday night tradition
at the University, was created 24 years ago because the head of the
music department did not want his section to become “isolated.”
Hugh Hodgson, department head
and fine arts division chairman, start
ed the then unique collegiate presen
tation with just a few students at
tending. The programs through the
passing years, aided by student guest
stars and Hodgson’s sterling piano
performances, have increased in
popularity and now play to a crowd
ed auditorium each week.
An effort is now being made to
present the programs over a local
radio station, Hodgson said. It this
plan succeeds, he explained, the pro
grams will be recorded and then
broadcast on Sunday night following
the recital.
The instigator and only head of
this activity is a quiet musician who
likes to talk about his work with
the students but not himself Hodg
son, after studying in Europe, made
his debut in New York and toured
colleges over the nation for seven
years presenting concerts,

Camel leads all other brands tybiffhns
Fresh out of Bivalve, N. J., he arrived on the campus all
bug-eyed and his big mouth hanging open. He was
immediately sucked into a “shell game” and found
himself making all the quick-trick cigarette tests.
But his native instinct told him that such an
important item as cigarette mildness couldn’t
be tossed off lightly. Millions of smokers
everywhere have discovered, loo, that there’s but
one true test of mildness.
It’s the sensible test...the 30-Day Camel
Mildness Test, which simply asks you to try Camels
as your steady smoke...on a pack-after-pack
basis. No snap judgments! Once you’ve tried
Camels for 30 days in your “T-Zone” (T for
Throat, T for Taste), you’ll see why...
