Six Teams Slill Unbeaten
In Intramural Football

Fraternity league play began its second week of action with the
contending teanps taking a definite place in the race for the coveted
Governor’s trophy.
Three teams from both the Red and Black leagues remained un
beaten going into the third week of league action. Delta Tan Delta
led the league in scoring with 19
points, while ail the losing teams
managed to score a total ot only
seven points.
In a hard fought game between
Chi Phi and Phi Ep, Chi Phi won by
penetration. Both teams displayed a
glittering defense, with neither team
being able to score during the allot
ted time.
Herbie Cilbert made a spectacular
catch and raced twenty yards down
to tha Chi Phi two yard line, but
four attempts to score proved futile.
Phi Ep stayed in Chi Phi territory
all afternoon but the rugged Chi Phi
defense prevented any scoring.
Dave Hendleman, Richard Llp-
shutz, and Beryl Weiner starred in
a losing cause while Johnny Rhyne
and Johnny Clifton paced the victors.
THK PHI Delts smashed Sigma Nu,
16-0, scoring on two pass plays with
Ed Daniels doing the receiving.
Moore threw twenty-five yards to
Daniels and Hickey passed ten yards
to Daniels for the two TD’s. A bad
snap from center resulted in one
safety for the Phi Delts and a Sigma
Nu defender was tagged in the end
zone for the other.
PIKA squeaked by Sigma Chi 1-0
on penetration. A great defensive
game was staged by both teams with
the Pikes finally coming out on top.
Frank Orlzzell and Neal Fendlg were
the heroes of the winning cause with
Jim Rackley, Tommy Powell. Blake
Asker, and Cecil Redfern sparking
the lostere. •
SAB continued their winning ways
by defeating Chi Psi 9-0. John Ter
rell passed thirty yards to Nat
Thompson for the SAE score and the
same combination scored the extra
point.
RED BRIDGES tagged a Chi Psi
back in the end zone for a safety
which iced the game for the SAE’s.
Jack Turner and Pinky Shirley were
standout* for the Chi Psi's
Black league action was highlight
ed by a thrilling last quarter win
by AEPi over Kappa Alpha. AEPi
drew first blood with a four yard
run around end by Bobby Schwartz,
but then failed to make the extra
point.
KA came right back on a play
which went from Whitlock to Nelson
for a score, and then made the extra
point to lead 7-6 at halftime.
The fourth quarter started with
Schwartz dropping a punt on his own
2-yard line, but the very next play
proved fatal for the KA's.
Bobby passed to Benerofe on the
ten yard line and the latter raced
fifty yards for the winning touch
down.
Michelove, Peskin, and Gilner turn
ed in fine performances for AEPi,
with Nelson and Whitlock shining
for the KA’s.
Other league action saw TEP re
main in the undefeated class with a
6-0 win over ATO.

Atkins played stellar games for ATO.
The Delta Tau Delta’s bounced
Kappa Sig 19-0 and continued to be
the best offensive team in either
league. Campbell to Stanflled was
good for one touchdown and Camp
bell ran two yards for the second
score. That man Campbell again,
threw to Durrance for the last tally.
Stars for the Kappa Slgs were Mor
ris and Tony Owen.
LAMBDA CHI broke into the win
column, beating Pi Kappa Phi 6-0
by scoring In the last quarter. With
only a minute and a'half remaining
in the game Tommy McDonald passed
to Bill Scott for a touchdown play
covering 25 yards. Joel Mauk and
Glen Hicks were outstanding for Pi
Kappa Phi.
First week action saw KA beat
Kappa Sig, 19-0, Chi Psi defeat Chi
Phi, 14-6, and SAE winning by pene
tration over Sigma Chi.
Main contenders for the champion
ship in the Red leaguo are PiKA,
SAE, and Phi Delt. In the Black
league,, AEPI, TEP, and Delta Tau
Delta are strong contenders for the
Delta’s will square off Tuesday after
noon on an all-important tussle.
Each team has its individual star
in Bobby Schwartz and Jug Campbell,
and the battle between these two
should be something to watch. Both
are good all around players, talented
and experienced In many depart
ments.
COACH LAWSON is having a
tough time in assembling enough
referees for each game. However,
they are doing the best Job possible
in handling the league games with
their undermanned staff. Lawson
was pleased with the smoothness of
play in. the week’s action, and com
mented on some ot the spectacular
plays.
Plans for placekicklng .volley ball,
and cake racing have been made and
will be announced sometime In the
near future.
The four fields which are now in
use for intramural play are: field
one, track; field two, Stegeman; field
three, left side of the basball field,
and field four right side of the base
ball field.

Highlights Tussles
In Presidents Cup
The President’s Cup League went
into action Wednesday as the second
part of the intramural football sche
dule.
Omega Tau Sigma whitewashed
Sigma Pi, 14-0, on the passing of
Mack Butler. Butler tossed to Jim
Ellis for 40 yards and the first mark
er. Brown ran the extra point over
to put OTS out front, 7-0.
Butler added another score on a
20-yard pass to Bob Kimmel in the
end zone. He then threw to Kimmel
for the extra point and OTS coasted
to victory.
Alpha Gumma Rbo handed Delta
Sigma Pi a 14-0 defeat in-a contest
that featured an unusual scoring
play. Herbert Bsilton tossed to Bill
Bailey for a 35-yard touchdown and
then fired to "Pee Wee” Deny for
tile point.
Usllton generated a freakish
touchdown when he threw a pase
that was intercepted by the Delta
Sig's Matthews. Anticipating that he
was trapped by the Gamma’s, defense.
Matthews lnterulled the pigskin, only
to have it intercepted by Tommy Sig
ma n who went all the way for the
AGR score.
