Schedule Mix-up Postpones
Teeh-Georgia Harrier Run
Because of a misunderstanding
about the schedule, the Georgia-
Georgia Tech cross country meet,
which was scheduled to be run here
Tuesday has been changed to
Wednesday in Atlanta.
The meet was scheduled as the sec
ond of the year for the Bulldogs who
lost their first outing to South Caro
lina, 22-35.
Results of the meeting with Tech
were not available at the time this
Issue went to press.
Remaining meets on the Georgia
schedule are: Mercer at Athens;
Soutli Carolina at Columbia; Mercer
at Macon; Southeastern Conference
at Atlanta.
The two PAT’s by fullback Joe
Childress proved to be the difference
between a victory and a tie for the
Plainsmen.
Auburn's touchdowns came on 61
and 80 yard marches, and both were
set up by quarterback Howell Tubbs’
surprising passing. Tech’s scores
came on a 59-yard run by George
Volkert and a one-yard plunge by
Wade Mitchell. Auburn’s win gives
them the SEC leadership.
R&B Picks Jordan
As’Coach of Week’
Ralph (Shug) Jordan, who coached
the Auburn Tigers to their first vic
tory over Georgia Tech since 1940,
has been chosen The Red and Black’s
‘Coach of the Week.’’
“Player of the Week” spot goes
to Johnny Blalack, who substituted
for the highly touted Eagle Day last
Saturday and led Ole Miss to a 27-13
victory.
Jordan, who was tabbed with
his nickname because of a child
hood love of sugarcane, began his
coaching career at Auburn. He trans
ferred to Georgia in 194 6 and was
one of Wallace Butts’ football assist
ants until 1951, when he returned
to Auburn. During the past four
years. Jordan has guided the Plains
men to 25 victories, 19 losses and
two ties.
Blalack first showed promise in
Ole Miss’ losing Sugar Bowl effort
against Navy in January. Against
Tulane he came into his own. and it
looks like he’s ready to take on full
time duty.
A faltering Florida Gator football
team, which had piled up an 18-point
lead over the first three quarters,
forgot about scoring in the fourth
quarter and managed to pull out an
18-14 victory over Paul Dletzel’s
LSU Bengals.
Time ran out on the game LSU
eleven which had scored two touch
downs in the last quarter only to see
its third drive checked by an offside
penalty.

Tailback John Majors figured in
all three of Tennessee’s touchdowns
and led his team to a 20-0 drubbing
of the Alabama Crimson Tide. The
Tide, which has tasted only defeat
in its four games this year, had one
scoring opportunity, but muffed it
by fumbling on the Vol-four-yard
line.
• • *
With four minutes remaining In
the game, Mississippi State quarter
back, Bill Stanton, heaved a despera
tion pass downfield. It was gathered
in by Halfback Earl Morgan, who
pranced the remainder of the 83 yards
to give the Maroons a 20-14 victory
over Kentucky.
• * •
John Blalack led the Ole Miss
Rebels to a 27-13. win over Tulane.
Blalack pitched for two touchdowns,
covering 43 and 55 yards, as he came
in to relieve regular Rebel quarter
back Eagle Day, who took second
seat to Blalack during the after
noon’s proceedings.
