ATHENS FAIR DISPLAY
Engineering Students Build
Mechanized Model of Farm
Add a “moo” and a
was the real thing.
But if your imagination doesn't
carry you away, you can realize that
it’s only a model farm, not the real
thing.
Built by agricultural engineering
students, the model is a farm 10 feet
long and nine feet wide. It is on dis
play at the Athens Agricultural Fair.
The display includes farm build
ings built to scale, model animals and
miniature farm implements. Com
plete with electric lighting, an elec
tric fence and an irrigation system,
the little farm is a reduced carbon
copy of the real thing.
A small-scale pump actually pro
pels water from a wash-tub-sized
pond to miniature grass sprinklers,
which rotate, spraying the farm’s
"grass.”

A half-foot high tractor moves in a
rectangular path through a “plowed”
field.
A student commitee headed by
Leonard Bartlett and Joe Long built
the display with equipment supplied
by the department and themselves.
