French Exchange Student
To Portray Role of Native
The American idea of a Frenchman ami the real thing aren’t exact
ly the same, Jean-Pierre Iluguet, exchange student from south
France, has discovered.
Iluguet will play the part of the

"In France," he says, "we do not
use the gestures so much.”
After studying education at a nor
mal school, Iluguet was a prectice
teacher for three months, teaching
three, four and five-year-old chil
dren. At the University, he is study
ing English. After three more years
of college in France, he will be quali
fied to teach English in high school
there.
Huguet likes French football, a
game similar to American soccer, bet
ter than football In this country, but
he enjoys the atmosphere of excite
ment at games here.
Iluguet is at the University on a
one-year scholarship from the Unit
ed States government and a Full-
bright travel scholarship. After his
arrival In the country, he spent two
months In Kansas living in an Amer
ican home as an "experiment In In
ternational living." There he accus
tomed himself to the language and
customs of the U. S.

plan to make teaching their career.

has named Miss Anne Seawell, place
ment director, as liaison director to
nominate at least two or a maximum
of three candidates for these fellow
ships.
Rules permit a Danforth Fellow to
carry other scholarship appointments
concurrently with his Danforth Fel
lowships, and applicants for the ap
pointments are invited to apply.
Qualifications for the grants re
quire candidates to have outstanding
academic ability, personality congen
ial to classroom, integrity and char
acter, including faith and commit
ment within the Christian tradition.

Six Cadets Receive
Outstanding A wards
Six cadets who attended summer
training camps received outstanding
rating awards. Forty-two University
Air Force cadets attended camps.
The ratings, based on outstanding
leadership, cooperation, initiative and
participation while at camp, were giv
en to the following cadets: Melvin
L. Adler, Atlanta; Herbert M. Crane.
LaGrange; James W. Fischer, Atlan
ta; Jake L. Fleming, Waycross:
James K. Harper Jr., Thomasville.
and Melvin E. Kersey Jr., Thomas-
ton.

standing awards went to Georgia ca
dets at Harlingen Air Force Base.

Varsity, ROTC Rifle Teams
To Fire in Annual Matches
University rifle teams will begin
competition this week.
The Varsity team will fire against
Kansas State College and Montana
University. Army ROTC team mem
bers will compete against Princeton
University, University of Minnesota
and Michigan College of Mines and
Technology.
Returning team members and new
candidates will compete against the
| schools.
Returning from last year’s squads
are James Mouser, Edward C. Long,
William G. Stewart, Henry Stone,
John Ezzard. Edward Riddle, Milton
Roberts and Glenn Dickinson.
The teams have mailed challenges
to colleges and universities through
out the United States.
Forestry Seminar Planned
"Potassium Deficiencies in Forest
Soils" will be the topic of the School
of Forestry's second fall quarter
seminar, Monday at 7:30 p.m. Dr.
L. C. Walker, assistant forestry pro
fessor, will conduct the seminar
About 25 persons are expected. The
