RODDY RATCLIFFE
N.
Rod Croons Bines After Lost IVeeketid
It isn’t hard to predict what
Georgia folk will be doing this
weekend—just take a peak at the
Social Calendar. Jacksonville will
evidently be the scene of any so
cial activities which are bound to
take form.
I guess that fact makes the game
the most important event of the
week. The SDT’s are planning to be
back in town Saturday night, how
ever. This is the evening of their
pledge dance which will begin at the
Georgian at 8:30, with Chan Sieg
supplying the music.
Tonight the Lambda Chi’s will en
joy the South Sea Islands with the
Alpha Gams at an entertainment on
that theme; the Sigma Nu’s are hav
ing the Theta’s over for a supper and
casual entertainment, and the
DPhiE’s are hostesses to the Phi Eps
at a dessert party.
The Pi Kappa Phi’s are having a
rush party; it is “Date Night” at the
Lambda Chi house, and the Chi O’s,
Chi Phi’s, and Delta are entertain
ing at their respective houses.
Seems strange not to have a long
list of parties for Friday night, but
maybe that will allow us more ener
gy to spend cheering our 'Dogs. Let’s
hope we’re as successful as we were
last Saturday. I’m sure it wasn't
Sammy Kaye who won the game.
Old Roddy is really singing the
blues this week; for days he looked
forward to Homecoming ’cause Cupid
promised him that just about every
body was going to get romantic no
tions. However, a few folks made
things a little brighter.
ADPi pledge Ann Sanders brought
Roddy a little happiness when she
accepted the Sigma Chi pin of Paul
Moreira. Also, two more Sigs con
tributed to the “cause.” Jimmy Yan
cey gave his White Cross to KD Anne
Xtissbaiim, and Jim McClellan made
Brenau ADPi Nancy Pollard his Sig
ma Chi "Sweetheart.”
Pepster Sonny Wade really had
something to cheer about at the game
|Saturday; he gave his SAE pin to
Phi Mu Joy Hargcron. Another Phi
Mu sister, Ellen Harrison helped
cheer Rod when she accepted the
DTD pin of Tech alum Dan Springer.
At the Alpha Gam house Margaret
Ehlridge is wearing the Lambda Chi
pin of Ityron Smith, Indiana State,
and Apple Myers is sportin’ the Sig
ma Nu pin of Don Gregg. Also,
"Snake” brother Jim Collier pinned
his "White Star" on Kappa pledge
| Joan MeCranic.
Two members of OTS gave away
j their pins this week too; Dan Orr to
Tot Anderson, Clinton, S. C., and
Harry Vildtbill is pinned to Ruth
Carroll, Aruba, Dutch West Indies.
That’s all she wrote this weekend.
Love is supposed to be a many splen-
dored thing; why don’t you investi
gate the subject?

Need for Coliseum
Urgent on Campus
At a recent meeting of the Pep Club, the need for a larger meeting
place for University students was discussed by the members.
Homecon Club Reveals Offer
Of Campus Catering Service
Homecon Club offers to plan, pre
pare and serve meals and decorate at
any place on campus for the cost.of
materials plus a small service fee:
Elise Wilson, chairman of the ca
tering project, said it is planned to
meet the needs of groups desiring
such a service as well as to give
home economics students participat
ing in the project valuable experience
in foods work. All profit goes to
Homecon.
The majority of students present
seemed to agree that the erection
of a coliseum would solve the prob
lem in providing a place for pep ral
lies, basketball games, concerts, class
meetings and student body meetings.
The building, w'hich would be con
structed partially underground with
circular walls and descending steps
would also he a suitable place for
graduation exercises. Sanford Sta
dium is fitting and proper as an ath
letic field, but to me it seems that
the impressiveness and ceremony of
graduation loses its dignity in the
vastness of an open stadium. Since
the student body has outgrown Fine
Arts auditorium, there is no other
suitable place for these services to
be held.
The project of erecting such a
building is soon to be presented to
the Board of Regents by officers of
the Pep Club. I sincerely hope that
this plan will eventually become
more than a dream as it would cer
tainly be an asset to the University
for years to come.
