Governor Sets Nov. 25
As Higher Education Day
The following proclamation was
State Capitol before Gov. Marvin
WHEREAS, the chief hope for a
worthwhile and abundant life for
the people of a State lies in the edu
cation of its peopule, and
WHEREAS, most of the leadership
of a State conies from graduates of
its colleges and universities, and
WHEREAS, for more than a cen
tury and a half much of the leader
ship of Georgia and of the South in
important fields of agriculture, busi
ness and the professions has been
provided by the University of Geor
gia and the Georgia Institute of
Technology, and
WHEREAS, the quality of the
leadership in the future depends
largely on the scope and the quality
of the programs and performances
of these two institutions, and
WHEREAS, as Governor of Geor
gia, I believe it most important and
appropriate that the people of Geor
gia give consideration immediately
to ways and means by which these
two institutions can become out
standing in every respect and be un
surpassed by any institution of high
er learning in the country.

of Georgia. I hereby proclaim Fri
day, Nov. 25, 1955, as “Higher Edu
cation Day 1 ’ and urge every indivi
dual and every business concern in
Georgia to direct attention on that
day to the importance of higher
education to the people of Georgia
and I urge further that consideration
be given to ways by which the Uni
versity of Georgia and the Georgia
Institute of Technology may be
strengthened so that they may be in
a position to serve more effectively
the people of the State and make
even greater contribution toward the
advancement of this State and Na
tion.

Livestock Show To Feature
Exhibition by Baton Twirler
Little International Livestock Show, which opens tomorrow at 8
p.tn. in Hardman Hall, will feature a baton twirling exhibition, prob
ably by a champion twirler.

A performance by the Shrine
Mounted Patrol, horseback precision
drill team from Atlanta previously
had been scheduled as the high
light entertainment event.
The livestock show, open to all
University students, will include
showing and fitting of sheep, swine,
horses and beef cattle. Trophies will
be awarded to the best showmen,
with regard to the merits of animals,
which will be supplied by the Uni
versity.
Contests will be divided Into
classes and divisions, with prizes of
fered in each. Persons winning the
most class and division awards will
lie named Grand Champion Show
man.
Other sidelights of the show will
Include a coed milking contest offer
ing a prize to the coed who gets the
most milk. A prize will also be
awarded for the best costumed
’■milkmaid."
The show is sponsored by Saddle
and Sirloin Club, with Dairy Science
Club co-sponsoring the milking con
test.
