after 21:3C had elapsed in tho sec
ond quarter and Carl Manning con
verted to give the 'Dogs a 13-0 lead

Gabrielsen Conditions SEC Tankmen
For Year's Rough Swimming Meets
Since October, Coach Bump Gabrielsen has been holding conditioning school for last year’s SEC
champion swimmers.
The Stegeman Hall tankmen, rated as co-favorites with Florida and Georgia Tech to win the SEC
swimming title this year, face the roughest schedule in their history.
Tops among Georgia's ten return
ing lettermen is Captain Hal Stolz,
who was the orthodox and butterfly
breaststroke champion of the SEC
last year.
Stolz, a 21-year-old senior from
Columbia, S. C., held the American
and NCAA records for the 200-yard
orthodox breaststroke, but It was
broken earlier this year. Though
Stolz’s specialty is the breaststroke,
he will be depended upon heavily in
the’ individual and team medley
races.
Rounding out Georgia’s “b 1 g
three” are Val Arnold and Bob Ter
ry. Arnold will be Georgia's best bet
in the free style races, and Terry
Hhould be one of the best backstrok-
ers in the SEC.
Other returning lettermen are Har
ry Oldham, free style; Denny Galls,
breaststroke; Frank Eberhart, free

The Bulldogs have been SEC swim
ming champs four of the past six
years. This has been accomplished
with a lack of depth, which looms as
the big hurdle to overcome again this
season.
Fellows that will be missed most
from last year’s squad are divers
Bob Kidd and Spencer Boyd along
with SEC backstroke champ Allen
Gentry.
“But, I expect Stolz, Terry and
Arnold to have their best year,” said
Gabrielsen. "And if these new boys
come along fast enough to replace
those we lost, we’ll make it rough for
anybody.”
The first meet is in Stegeman Hall
at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10,
against Clemson.
Butts To Coach All-Stars
In North-South Grid Battle
Coach Wallace Butts has been se

staff, and the collegians have whip
ped the pros three of these times.
