Panhellenic Council Hears Talks

Saturday night the Student Union
is having a big Christmas dance at
the Legion Hut. The Veterans Club’s
membership party will be going on
at Bridges’ Cabin.
TEP's are declaring a "Roman
Holiday” at their house. Chan Sieg’s
band will supply the music for the
party-goers who will be dressed in
their favorite Roman costume.
Phi Delta Theta’s will be having
a "Farewell to the House” party at
their house from 8 to 12. Everyone
is invited to the celebration which
precedes their moving into their new
house on Lumpkin.
It takes a square dance to make
the weekend complete for the Phi
Sigma Biological Society. They will
be square dancing in Dawson Hall
from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday.
Phi Upsilon Omicron Initiates
16 New Members Wednesday
The University chapter of Phi Up
silon Omicron, national professional
home economics fraternity, last night
initiated 16 home economics Btudents.
New members were chosen for
qualities of leadership, scholarship,
and professional attitude toward
home economics, according to Chap
ter President Lauradine Baker.
The new members are Patsy Ad
ams, Virginia Burns, Judy Cohen,
Mary Louise Daniel, Kathryn Fricks,
Mary Jo Hutcheson, Bertha King,
Kay Kinne, Charlotte Mathis, Jean-
nine .Payne, Joy Putnam, Laverne
Roberts, Montyne Shattuck, Peggy
Tarpley, Charlotte Thweatt and Joyce
Turner.

Student Union Hop Set
Saturday at Legion llut
The annual Student Union
Christmas dance will be held
Saturday night at the American
Legion Hut, Charles Bell, Union
president, said this week.
The dance will begin at 8
o'clock with the Twilighters pro
viding the music. Santa Claus
will be present and refresh
ments will be served. Admis
sion will be 50 cents a person.

Council's annual dance honoring the
On Chi Omega,Tri Celt Histories
Representatives of Chi Omega and Delta Delta Delta sororities gave
brief talks on the histories of their organizations at u recent meeting
of Panhellenic Council.
Chi Omega was founded April 5,
1895, at the University of Arkansas
by Dr. Charles Richardson, a mem
ber of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Mu
Beta chapter was founded at the Uni
versity in 1923.
The sorority has the second largest
number of active chapters on Ameri
can college and university campuses;
the total is 118.
Chi Omega presents a scholarship
to one student each year a3 a part
of their philanthropic work. The or
ganization also gives a national
achievement award to outstanding
women and a social science award
to a selected group.
Delta Delta Delta was founded
Thanksgiving Eve, 1888 at Boston
University. It was the first sorority
in New England.
The sorority has alliances in sev
eral foreign countries and is the first
sorority to organize a leadership
school during the summer.
Penhellenic Council also recently
donated $532.95 to the Community
Chest and $50 to the United Jewish
Appeal as their philanthropic project,
a member of the Council announced
this week.
Desk blotters with dormitories’, sororities’ and fraternities’ phone num
bers printed on them will be issued to students and faculty next quarter
at registration.
The blotters are the project of Theta Sigma Phi, honorary journalism
fraternity for women. This announcement was made by Barbara Rogers,
president, Columbus.
At a recent meeting of Theta Sigma Phi, Hurrlette Schreiber, Blackshear,
was elected president of the organization. Miss Schrieber will fill the un
expired term of Acting President Barbara Rogers, Columbus, who will
graduate at the end of fall quarter.
