Franklin College to Start
New Academic Program
By JOHN NEWSOME
Dean J. O. Edison of tlie College of Arts and Sciences announces
that the Franklin College will initiate a program of academic honors
during the coining school year.
Under this program freshmen stu
dents who showed academic promise
in high school will be invited to be
come candidates for degrees with
honors. They will be allowed to ex
empt many of the standard general
education courses usually taken dur
ing the first two years of college.
Instead, they will enroll in special
honors courses, in which classes will
lie kept small and the scope of the
work will be broadened.
The Honors Program will be ad
ministered by a director and an
Honors Council, who will work un
der the direction of Dean Edison. The
students enrolled in the program will
normally take two five-hour courses
in each of the following during his
freshman and sophomore years:
natural sciences, mathematics, and
social sciences.
A few of the present sophomores
and juniors will be eligible to parti
cipate in the program by taking some
electives in the Honors group. These
persons will receive special invita
tions this quarter to enroll.
WRFC Announcers
To Publish History
Of Georgia Football
By KEN SKl'SE
•‘NO IKS, NO ANDS, A LOT OF
III TTS" is the name of a book writ
ten by Ed Thilenius and Jim Roger
WRFC announcers about 21 years
of Georgia football with Coach Wally
Butts.
The book, scheduled to come out
in mid-August, is divided into three
parts. Part one tells of unpublished
highlights from Butts's private life
from childhood.
Part two is the only complete his
tory of Georgia football, capturing
all of the highlights with the great
and near-great players.
Part three is an appendix that lists
all Georgia and SEC records set by
Butt’s' players and teams and team
records since 1892.
The book's foreword was written
by Ed Sullivan, nationally syndi
cated columnist for the New York
Daily News and master of ceremonies
for the television program "Toast of
the Town." The prologue was writ
ten by Frank Leahy, and the post
script is by Bernie Moore, SEC Com
missioner and Butts's former coach
at Mercer.
